Top doc: 'Several people were exposed,' more will be infected by Dallas Ebola case
Washington Examiner ^ | Oct 1st, 2014 | By Paul Bedard

A former Food and Drug Administration chief scientist and top infectious disease specialist said that several people were exposed to the Ebola virus by the unidentified patient in Dallas, America’s first case, and it’s likely that many more will be infected.

Dr. Jesse L. Goodman, now a professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, said while the nation shouldn’t panic, it’s best to prepare for the worst.

“It is quite appropriate to be concerned on many fronts,” he said in a statement provided to Secrets. “First, it is a tragedy for the patient and family and, as well, a stress to contacts, health care workers and the community at large. Second, it appears several people were exposed before the individual was placed in isolation, and it is quite possible that one or more of his contacts will be infected,” he added.

What’s more, he conceded that it was “only a matter of time” that the swift-killing African virus arrived in the U.S.

In the early days of AIDS, we didn’t even know what we had going on. This is the same thing. They want to sound as though they know everything about Ebola, but I guarantee that they don’t. That’s why they lie. They don’t want everyone to know that they don’t know. People get panicked easily, so they lie so people don’t go into hysterics. I’d rather we understand what’s going on and be cautious and observant.

They had one at the ready. They had two vials. The company had been given millions previously. The female scientist involved was at the Whitehouse at some point.....long before this ebola thing made the news. I’ll go back and see if I can find a rather surprising article which included Obama.

Yeah, well that sure worked out swell the last time.

Bath houses stayed open, millions more died than had to.

Great game plan.

The CDC is, ultimately, a political entity.

Their job is to minimize public reaction in the interest of Public Health.

And that's because We the People are to stupid to know what's good for our own selves:)

I was going to go in and vote during early voting (which isn’t open yet, and who knows how this will spread in Texas in the coming weeks).

My poll doesn’t get a lot of traffic on the actual election day.

I generally vote early so that traffic (used be surprised at some the scheduled freeway closures for “construction” during election season) and sickness and other scheduling conflicts don’t keep me from the polls.

That’s right. If your fluids get into a cut, that person is infected.

I’m never quite as certain it can’t be spread by coughing as the government folks are. Someone coughs, and fluids are spread, those too can become infection sources.

If some spit hits someone else just right, they’ve got a problem IMO.

Bodily fluids carrying the infection can obviously infect someone exposed to them.

The infected person was "at large" for a few days before he decided to get checked in.

His bodily fluids and all biological wasted produced by the person, would have entered the environment in which he lived, and his fecal and urine matter would have gone down the drain, and who knows where it ended up.

The virus is not out there, and not just in the victim's body. It's only a matter of time before somebody "encounters" the "distributed virus" and gets sick, and won't know what it is, and will further spread the disease.

People in sewage treatment plants down the line, should be made aware of what could happen. Decontamination will be hard to do once the virus gets out there, and it could already be out there.

Patient identified . . .children may have been exposed:

Sister: US Ebola patient said he was from Liberia

DALLAS — The sister of the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States says he told relatives he notified officials the first time he went to the hospital that he was visiting from Liberia.

Mai Wureh says her brother, Thomas Eric Duncan, went to a Dallas emergency room on Friday and they sent him home with antibiotics. She says he said hospital officials asked for his Social Security number and he said that he didn’t have one because he was visiting from Liberia.

Duncan arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 20 to be with relatives in Dallas. He began to develop symptoms last Wednesday and sought care two days later. He was released and returned to the hospital and was admitted Sunday.

Dallas ISD superintendent Mike Miles also revealed that five children from four of the district's campuses were possibly exposed to the virus.

Two of the five schools identified by Miles -

I’ve been one of the most resistant people here as far as panic goes. I take these things in stride and wait for the outcome.

One thing I don’t like, is being lied to. Start lying to me and your credibility drops to zero.

The AIDS virus could remain alive in salive for up to ten hours (at least in that range), and they forbid people to quarantine or single out children. They tried to act like there was not danger at all. That was a lie.

Any child that got infected by an individual like that, was a person that had been written off by the government as someone not worthy of protecting. THAT makes me furious.

Correction for a sentence: “The virus is NOW out there, and not just in the victim’s body”.

I generally agree with that.

I am willing to judge the CDC based on it’s day to day response to things like this.

I do find it very interesting that this is spread the same way AIDS was, but they are treating it like an isolation disease.

Remember, AIDS remains in the blood stream forever. EBOLA is only supposed to be there as long as you are symptomatic. None the less, which one was treated as an infectious disease? The one with the shorter exposure potential. Very interesting.

There’s your political correctness at work.

I can’t argue with that. I don’t know the full potential, but it could be very problematic.
