I have a great deal of schadenfreud over this.

Millenial slackers gave us Obama. Now that hiring (such that it is) may be coming back employers are going after older, more experienced workers, probably because they have a stronger work ethic than the Millenials do.

There was an article/ thread a week back about the Millenial’s you need us, we don’t need you, you will change/adapt to us mentality. Karma can be so, so sweet.

I know a lot of employers who like the the 55-69 age group because we, for the most part, are trained to show up for work when scheduled.

Possibly a factor in cases of new hires 65 and up, but not so much for 55 to 64 year olds, though.

"With this jobs report, the Unemployment rate has now dropped below 6% to a new low of 5.9% … A large portion of this change can be attributed to an increase in the number of unemployed Americans leaving the workforce."

A nearly word-for-word quote from a radio news story today.

Well, then I guess the companies are looking for people with a work ethic.

And a lot of this hiring, such as it is, is nothing but normal Christmas season temporary jobs.

True, but still shows a clear indication of what pool of available workers employers consider to be more reliable.

Millenials so richly deserve this.

Yabut ... we have our problems ... primarily physical pain of some sort.

For me it is arthritis and failing vision.

God's been good to me .. I don't HAVE to work ... not "well off", but ...

Welll ... example;

The flex plate went out on my 2000 Lariat ... my SIL did the work for $550 and parts of $170 ... $720 ...

B I G bite from a SS ck

All I have to do is stay home for a month and another check happens

That's the way it's been since the house fire in March>

I feel SO badly for the ladies I see at WalMart .. no ring .. maybe widowed or divorced ... and they complain of the hours and the pain.

I still keep my class A CDL current and I’ve had job offers that they pre-hire me for, but I fail the eye test.

Thank the Fed for eliminating the interest from the savings the Boomers had responsibly gathered to support themselves in their old age.

Cheap, desperate, elderly workers available to keep payrolls down- it was genius!

And, the job creation just happened to be in the 55 to 69 age group which is the most important voting bloc?

The fact that the people in this age group are getting the majority of new jobs is not good news for the people in that age group - remember, most people at that point in life are hoping to retire or to just continue working at the job they have until retirement - very few WANT to have to get a new job or continue working so long, but with the current economy, they don't have a choice.

True, but if they need the jobs in order to pay the rent, eat, etc, I’d rather they go to the older generation.

An added benefit is that it might reduce the sense of entitlement by the Millenials. Somewhat, anyways.

If you like your job, you can give it to your grandmother.

Seasonal adjustments do not change the nature of the jobs people are being hired to fill.

Anything from customer support to customer service.
You don’t have to provide health insurance per Obamacare to someone on Medicare, driving hiring of the older folks.

Vast majority of those over the last three years have been full-time.
