Bobby Jindal: We Must Ban travel from Ebola nations

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Friday called on the Obama administration to impose a travel ban on flights coming to the U.S. from countries with Ebola outbreaks.

“We should stop accepting flights from countries that are Ebola stricken,” the Republican governor said in a statement.

“President Obama said it was ‘unlikely’ that Ebola would reach the U.S. Well, it has, and we need to protect our people,” he added. “But the Obama administration keeps saying they won’t shut down flights. They instead say we should listen to ‘the experts.’ In fact, they said it would be counterproductive to stop these flights. That statement defies logic. How exactly would stopping the entry of people potentially carrying the Ebola virus be counterproductive? This seems to be an obvious step to protect public health in the United States.”

Jindal becomes one of the most prominent voices calling for a travel ban, which the Centers for Disease Control and some public health experts have said is either misguided or impractical, or both. Earlier Friday, CDC Director Tom Frieden appeared on the morning talk shows to argue that a travel ban would likely “backfire” and make it harder for health officials to fully root out the virus.

“Even if we tried to close the border, it wouldn’t work,” the director said on MSNBC. “People have a right to return. People transiting through could come in. And it would backfire, because by isolating these countries, it’ll make it harder to help them, it will spread more there and we’d be more likely to be exposed here.” Frieden added that the only way to completely eliminate Americans’ risk to Ebola is to stop the virus “at the source” — meaning West Africa.

“I’m waiting for the TALK to stop and SOMEONE to LEAD in terms of trying to get America back to the main road we were once on.”

The behavior of Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Hatch, Romney, the Bush family, Karl Rove, and other Republican leaders over the past 6 years suggests they are all compromised. All of them behave as collaborators with the regime, not opponents of the destruction of America. Father and son Bush, both former Presidents, have been silent while the nation goes down the toilet. Boehner, McConnell and others have failed to use what Constitutional powers they have to obstruct the tyranny emanating from the White House. Karl Rove and others have used every political weapon they have to thwart any opposition to the regime. Likely Obama and his team have “dirt” on each of them. The administration knows who has mistresses, who has a drug problem, who beats his wife, whose wants their child to get into an exclusive Ivy League school, who has skimmed campaign contributions or taken under the table bribes. None of these Republican leaders behave like free agents, so it must be assumed they are at best victims of extortion and worst active agents for the regime.

Leaders of a real opposition party, in the current situation 30 days from a major election, would be screaming in unison demanding the borders be secured, visas from the Ebola infected countries pulled, and anyone from those countries refused entry to the United States. I applaud Bobby Jindal for saying what they should all be saying. He is one voice crying in the wilderness. Unfortunately his brothers and sisters in the Republican leadership continue to remain silent. Apparently whatever force is controlling their behavior is more powerful than love of country or fear for the lives of their family and friends if a full fledged epidemic is unleashed on the homeland.

A united appeal to the President by every Republican candidate to close the border and take effective steps to quarantine anyone inside this country who has been in contact with a person affected by Ebola would result in a landslide win for the party on election day. Over the next 30 days the media is going to be reporting the Ebola story daily and we will undoubtedly hear about more cases of infection. A number of my normally passive neighbors are already convinced there will be a pandemic and are madly stocking their homes with food and supplies in case they need to barricade themselves inside their homes for months while the disease rages in the community.

Democrats are masters at not letting a crisis go to waste. Discounting the positive political implications of demanding the appropriate action, Republican Senators and Congressmen should be on the steps of the White House demanding the border be closed because it is their sworn duty to defend and protect us. They need to be on it now, not taking a wait and see approach.

It is very possible Ebola is the October surprise and excuse to declare martial law. Imagine the week before the upcoming election there are outbreaks of the disease in several major cities and the media is in a frenzy about the possibility of a pandemic. Internal polling shows the a wave election in which the Republicans are going to add seats in the House and capture the Senate with a veto proof majority. What better time to declare a national emergency, postpone the election indefinitely, and deploy troops in the streets to protect the people?

Preemptive action is possible now. Imagine if both former Bush presidents, flanked by John McCain, Mitt Romney, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and every Republican governor went on national television this weekend with a sober appeal to Obama to do lock down the borders to protect the nation. In the same statement they would appeal to the people to call, email, and write their elected representatives. No matter what snarky comments the President and his minions, or the mainstream press pontificators made in response, I believe the people would respond strongly in a positive and forceful way. The failure of the Republican leadership to lead in a developing crisis, when the President’s policy is clearly endangering the lives of the citizens of the United States, suggests more than stupidity. It suggests treasonous collaboration with the destruction of the nation.

Jindal is showing up as a patriot. Will we see any others stand up or will he be alone? If he is alone, and the October surprise is martial law, he’ll likely be one of the first to be hauled away.

Saudi Arabia banned people from those countries from participating in the Haaj.

Sad when Saudi Arabia makes more sense than the US.
