High-level North Korean delegation to attend AG closing ceremony

North Korea plans to send a high-ranking delegation to the Incheon Asian Games closing ceremony Saturday, Seoul's Ministry of Unification said.

According to official sources, the North informed the South on Friday that it wants to send Hwang Pyong-so, Choe Ryong-hae and Kim Yang-gon to the ceremony slated for 6 p.m. Saturday.

The three officials plan to arrive via a direct air route from North Korea to Incheon at 10 a.m.

Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae is expected to hold talks with the North Korean officials after their arrival.

Hwang was recently tapped as the director of the military's General Political Bureau, the top military post in North Korea.

Kim is head of the United Front Department of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, tasked with overseeing the activities of sleeper agents operating in South Korea, while Hwang is said to exert considerable influence in the North despite stepping down from his post of deputy chairman of the National Defense Commission.

Seoul, meanwhile, said it will withhold judgment on why the North is sending such a high-level delegation to Incheon at this juncture. (Yonhap)

I don’t think Tokyo is any more advanced than Seoul.

Order your groceries with your phone at the train station and they'll be delivered just after you get home.

I think South Korea beat North Korea in the Men’s soccer final, which is the highlight of the games. Talk about a show down in Inchon.

There’s been several stories today out of the British press saying that Pyongyang has been locked down for anybody to leave and that the Dear Fatso hasn’t been public for the last few weeks.

I was in Inchon in the mid-60’s the thing I was most impressed with was their 36 foot tide.

I think the biggest expense of re-unifying the Korean peninsula will be the enormous cost of removing hundreds of thousands of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines along with dismantling all the defensive emplacements along both sides of the DMZ. It would be a project that could take many years to complete. Without doubt, Pyongyang would undergo modernization, but that would take 20 years to complete, especially tearing down many of the old Communist-era buildings and putting in a modern highway infrastructure.

On the RocketNews24 website, you can see what Seoul, South Korea was like back in the middle 1960's:

Vintage Travel Snaps from 1960s Korea and Japan Evoke Strong Emotions

If you saw my remark in the comment section, it was really unfair to compare Tokyo of the 1960's with Seoul of the same period. After all, Seoul in the middle 1960's was only 12 years after the end of the Korean War, and the city was only somewhat along the way to recover from the effects of that war.

The “one generation” leap that South Korea made economically seems miraculous. Now the second generation seems a bit spoiled and they love celebrities and stuff, but it doesn’t seem to have slacked off like the old 3 generation family business theory would suggest.

The divide between North and South Korea wasn’t all that pronounced until the RoK became an actual democracy in the late 80’s/90’s. Yep, it hardly seems possible that it was so recent.

They still have the same hard-working students (they had to pass laws to limit after school study centers because kids would study all night if they could) and they have a workaholic problem just like Japan, including the after-work binge drinking apparently.

So there is a good chance the 3rd generation won’t lose it all.

Pictures from those days are amazing.

I have not checked in the last three hours to see if there has been any change(s) but the news that travel to and from the capital, Pyongyang, has been restricted, is NOT true according to a tweet from Chosun Exchange (per Hamish McDonald of NK News which is a website run by former defectors from North Korea). This tweet said people were moving in and out of the city.

I agree with Tiger Likes Rooster that the out of the blue “visit” to Inchon of these three high level cadre of the Nork government is not only highly unusual but indicative of something else.

If there has been a coup, then who would logically be the next dictator? Would the coup masters want to keep the meticulously fabricated Kim ruling dynasty story intact? Kim’s younger sister has recently been given a high party position and has been (reportedly) in control of the purse strings. One of his brothers, Jong-nam, reportedly was seen in Paris last week, ostensibly to visit his son who is in college. The other brother’s whereabouts are unknown to me (Chol).

If there has not been a coup, then Korea watchers must really be scratching their heads.

Imho nothing is “really up in N.Korea”. This is business as usual.

It will only be big or “really up” when the people of NK are freed of their cradle to coffin state indoctrination and brainwashing.

Omg i’m hoping you have seen some of those covert films of people who are resisting in NK on yt because it’s heartbreaking. You can also see the documentaries on people
eating tree bark and grass.

Junior isn’t appearing ?, big effin’ deal. we shouldn’t hold our breath just because JUNIOR LIKES SWISS CHEESE and has reported “gout” or “broken both ankles” because he’s gotten so fat from his beloved SWISS CHEESE.

This re-organization within the regime is simply a signal to the global community at large that “everything is ok” when it’s really not and it’s all a propaganda effort from who knows where on whatever side. This is why I don’t believe such stuff like this

NK’s regime payola is from meth production and all the other accoutrements OTHER than meth, including porn & pill sales and heroin, and paid hacking, etc.

They ship this stuff World Wide. It may not come directly to the US but there’s a hella’ lotta’ Asia to conquer .

Even a generation after, Germany is still not completely united.

That is nothing compared to what trying to reunite Korea is going to be like.
