A definitive 20-year study into the effects of long-term cannabis use has demolished the argument that the drug is safe. Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, the study found.

That has nothing to do with changing the chemical composition of your brain and calling it “fun”.

I think anyone with common sense knows it is harmful to your body and your brain. At a minimum that stuff must really tar up a person’s lungs and cause cancer.

But this part caught my eye
“‘If cannabis is not addictive then neither is heroin or alcohol,’ he said. ‘It is often harder to get people who are dependent on cannabis through withdrawal than for heroin – we just don’t know how to do it.’

It is known to be physiologically addictive but NOT physically addictive. Comparing it to heroin is silly. Based on such ignorant statements I discount the entire article. I wouldn’t believe anything those idiots said. But again one doesn’t need idiots like these people to tell you that smoking a substance deep into your lungs is not a good idea

Well, you know what they say. Never get between a libertarian and his hookers and blow. Do you know how to create a libertarian? Just take a conservative and remove all common sense. Libertarianism is a theoretical construct that is only viable in a perfect world with perfect people. When you use and abuse drugs that cause traffic and workplace accidents that injure and kill people then it is absolutely the government’s business. When you fry your brains with dope and the taxpayers have to pay for your medical bills then you harm all of us.

A doubling of the Schizophrenia rate from 1% to 2% is a profound increase that requires notice by all...if it's supported by other rigorous research.

It should be considered within the context that Alcohol does more damage. Period.

And neither should be illegal.

Let me guess, you are a big fan of probation and wish it was still in the Constitution? Did you know that the federal government killed at least 10,000 americans by putting wood grain alcohol into industrial ethanol in order to prevent the bootlegger chemists from removing it? The fascist some government were perfectly happy to kill Americans in order to save them.

Many use it for the relief of emotional pain. Cheaper than therapy.

Any chronic pot smoker that doesn’t admit to all of these facts is in total denial. Pot also doesn’t really have any medicinal value compared with the damage it does.

Now I’m gonna get slammed by all the pot lovers here. Truth is, I’ve smoked more than my share of pot and I know the truth of it.

I reall y don’t care what people do...as long as I don’t have to foot their medical care, disability, unemployment or any of the costs. So far as I’m concerned, if you want to off yourself, go ahead. I don’t want to clean up after you. Unfortunately, that’s not how it usually plays out.

All That I personally know about the stuff was that we has a very nasty neighbor who grew and used heavily (for pain of course) and was dead of lung cancer before he was 40.
Now that the stuff is legit for “personal use” you see those “marijuana mansions” in a surprising lot of backyards.
Most of them are the kind of folks you won’t miss anyway.

I’m not concerned about the physical health, it is what it does to the masses who use it, it is like Cannabis puts a worm into people’s heads that make them alike.

There is a reason why Western man has always looked down on it and never accepted it as an intoxicant for thousands of years.

Ditto.

What causes my dislike of the pro-legal marijuana types is their lack of willingness to admit the downsides of smoking weed. Instead they want to distract from that by mentioning alcohol which is irrelevent because the issue is marijuana.

Just admit pot can harm and be addictive. Having all the info is better than being sucker punched by reality when encountering pot users.

Could medical marijuana really be that much worse

If you don't mind adding chronic COPD, bronchitis and very possibly lung cancer at some point to his back pain then maybe not.

More harm comes from smoking weed then any possible pain relief is worth.

You’ll be happy to know I feel the same way about other people’s mistakes. I don’t want to pay for Obamacare either I think it’s a waste of money and just encourages bad behavior. FYI haven’t done marijuana since I was 20 so don’t be so judgey. From your posts I gather that your law and order type conservative. Not too concerned with freedom as long as everything is in sync with your personal moral code.
