The female contribution is the "compiler" that allows programming to be done in something besides assembler. Do you know how important that step is to computing?
You must be quite insecure. This bit of history is not stealing anything from anyone. Facts are facts, and compilers are a big deal for computing.
I am a man who began working along the software/hardware interface line in 1972. I suspect I've written software for more machines than you probably know existed. I have definitely "made my mark".
Women did not invent compilers. Grace Hopper and a team under contract from the government created the COBOL compiler. There have been dozens of others written since, and COBOL is of declining interest.
This article’s headline reads “Women Who ... Created Modern Tech.” That is an utter crock, like saying that Danika Patrick “created” NASCAR.
I’m not insecure, but I’m fed up with PC groups piggybacking on the successes of others. If any one group “created” modern tech, it sure wasn’t women.
And I’ve programmed on my share of machines in a career that’s lasted almost 30 years. Including almost 20 years in Assembler. So compilers are a luxury to me.
