Poll shows Childers gaining on Cochran in Senate race in Mississippi

A new poll shows Democratic challenger Travis Childers gaining on Sen. Thad Cochran less than a month before the Nov. 4 general election.

The New York Times/CBS/YouGov poll taken Sept. 20 through Oct. 1 shows Cochran leading 41 percent to 30 percent. A similar poll taken Aug. 18 through Sept. 2 had Cochran with a 40 percent to 25 percent advantage.

According to the New York Times The Upshot:

The YouGov online surveys are being used to supplement, not replace, the Times’s traditional telephone polls. The Times/CBS News poll uses a different methodology for its political and social surveys; they are conducted using random digit dialing probability sampling. The YouGov data is used for The Upshot election forecasting model in key congressional races and Senate battleground states.

In each state and district, respondents were selected to match the demographics of registered voters. In 66 competitive House districts and the 15 smallest states with Senate elections this year, YouGov interviewed a disproportionate numbers of voters to increase the sample size for these races.

Public polling has shown Cochran stuck below 50 percent since the nasty Republican primary against Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel, which is still being contested in the Mississippi Supreme Court, Childers spokeswoman Lindsey White wrote in a release about the poll results

This election is about Haley Barbour’s fingers in the Senate appropriations committee cookie jar.

Nothing more.

I’m not saying cheat, I’m saying suck it up and don’t let a democrat win.

Not a chance! Mark Levin did a great job of putting my thoughts into words

Mark Levin:

"If I lived in Mississippi, I would not vote for Thad Cochran, because Thad Cochran has besmirched me.

Thad Cochran has told Democrats, minorities, liberals, anybody who would listen that I’m a racist and that I want to stop black people from voting.

People assigned to him, people associated with him — Cochran hasn’t denounced any of this. Mitch McConnell hasn’t denounced any of this. John McCain hasn’t denounced any of this. Haley Barbour hasn’t denounced any of this.

They’re having a party! They won!

They won, and why? They’re so desperate to keep a constitutional conservative out of the Senate? They’re so desperate to protect a man in the early stages of dementia, because he’ll vote the way they want him to vote, because they can control him?

And that’s what we’ve become? That’s what the party of Lincoln has become? The party of Abraham Lincoln has become the party of race-baiting and food stamps? The party of Ronald Reagan has become the party of race-baiting and food stamps?

This is what happens when you have no principles. This is what happens when you’ve lost your moorings.

… Reagan appealed to conservative Democrats on a cultural level. He appealed to their highest aspirations, not fear mongering, not race baiting, not by promoting big government programs.

No, there’s no way Thad Cochran would get my vote. I’d be betraying myself."

The only difference is that I DO live in Mississippi!

If Rove etc al succeed with scam in Mississippi, it will encourage them to repeat it in the future. If they get their fingers rapped, they won’t.

If control of the Senate swings on one seat, we might just as well pack it in anyway but I think it won’t.

Further if Cochran DOES get elected, he owes it big time to a constituency which is antithetical to our interests.
