The southeast USA, from D.C. to East Texas, is similar to West Africa, as far as humidity and temperature. Right there in N.C., the Great Dismal Swamp is pert-near jungle, and upstate the Smoky Mountains are one small notch short of a rain forest. North Carolina is wet AND sticky.

Most of the state does reliably have some winter weather, though. Just a subtropical band along the coast and thirty-forty miles inland that narrows as you go north, ending at about Cape Hatteras. If climate has anything to do with it, alligators and palm trees would mark the zone.
