The government plans to begin taking the temperatures of travelers from West Africa arriving at five U.S. airports as part of a stepped-up response to the Ebola epidemic.
At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest said an additional layer of screening would begin at New York's JFK International and the international airports in Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago and Atlanta. He said the new steps would include taking temperatures and would begin Saturday at JFK.
Earnest said the five airports cover the destinations of 94 percent of the people who travel to the U.S. from the three heavily hit countries in West Africa — Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. He estimated that about 150 people would be checked a day under the new procedures.

Is this for real. I’m drugged in the hospital, are they really saying they are letting in people wih malaria but not Ebola. Why are we letting in anyone from these countries. Medivac only Americans out in chartered private planes. Sheesh.

I am listening to the CDC presser. One of the questions, not sure from who, asked, “will the extra screening procedures taking place in the US, hamper the resources and teams from helping those in Africa”. (Paraphrased).
Too true. If I were a native in one of the infected countries, and had the cash, I would hop a plane to the U.S. pronto on a visitor’s visa. If during the incubation period, I showed signs of ebola, I would be assured of the best hospital care available, but also would have infected many US citizens with whom I came into contact...collateral damage, their hard luck. If I never came down with the disease, I would just melt into the U.S. as an illegal...no way I would be returning. By not “closing our borders” to natives from these countries, we are exposing our own citizenry to this horror.

I thought Jay Carney was dumb....this guy Earnest is even dumber!!! What about Seattle, Portland, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Miami, Orlando, Tampa....all of them foreign entry cities. What prevents an infected African citizen from going “round about’ to one of these cities, or, comng thru Canada and Mexico...up from South America, or across from a European city!!!

So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
