AUTHORITIES are performing tests for the deadly Ebola virus on a Queensland woman who recently returned from Sierra Leone.
The 57-year-old woman is being assessed at Cairns Hospital.
She has recently returned to Cairns from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone.
Queenslands Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanne Young said the woman is a Red Cross volunteer who was working in Sierra Leone and has placed herself in quarantine.
She exhibited no symptoms until she recorded her own temperature and recorded an increase.
Health authorities are now performing tests.
They hope to have the result later today

Good for her.
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
I’m hearing nothing at all about Ebola from China or Russia. As huge as these counties are, both the size of continents, I would presume the ‘big E’ virus is popping up there too.
The number of people killed by this may not be that great outside Africa, but the economic damage mught become considerable as people quarantine themselves, and reduce economic activity.
That’s an interesting point. It would seem that they’d be having the same problem we’ve got.
They have a simple solution. Shoot, shovel, and shut up. Gotta admit, it works.
If you got Ebola over there, best be quiet and just lay down and die, let them burn and/or bury you.
Russia and China, won’t dare to risk their populations in a fit of politically correct BS.
They’ll contain it, one bomb, or one bullet at a time.
And they will be cheered for it.
Im hearing nothing at all about Ebola from China or Russia.
They’re keeping it under wraps. Somebody in China gets Obola and they’re “taken care of”. They won’t let it get out of hand.
There is no PC in china.
I have just written to one of our Senators (here in Australia) who I have met a few times to see if there is any discussion or planning about closing our borders to these countries or quarantine measures for anyone who does come here (this would include 28 days isolation). I will be interested to see if I get an answer or what it may be. People are so wrapped up in the ISIS war that I think they are letting this slide and hope it goes away on it’s own. Any country which is not considering stopping travel from these infected countries is not taking care of it’s own people.
Soon, every country will close their borders & the Ebola infected will have only the USA to fly to!
I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to having to close borders but if it continues to escalate over the next month the call should be made. Will any of them have the balls to do it? Calling it early may save many lives. I think we all fear the opposite!
Thankfully she was smart enough to self quarantine and monitor her temp unlike so many others.
I always laughed at that. You hear that Elizabeth? I'm coming to join you honey.
If it's in the general population then the "have you flown from Africa" filter no longer works. The "do you know someone with Ebola" filter will be more difficult to answer. At that point the quarantine centers will be full of flu patients (99% flu, 1% Ebola). At that point they will just take a blood sample and send people home with instructions not to go out. Those will also be 99% or more flu or other benign illness.
The "better safe than sorry" approach will help, but it won't deter the pathological or the clueless who go out and spread anyway. Their blood test will come back positive and they will be contacted but by then they will have done some spreading.
