Fiscal Times ^ | 10/9/14 | Bob Garver

Posted on 10/09/2014 5:25:18 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

The strange three-way Senate race in South Dakota heated up this week with a new poll showing the GOP nominee’s lead shrinking — and with the revelation that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee will commit $1 million to the race, largely to fund ads attacking him.

The Republican frontrunner, former Governor Mike Rounds, is competing with Democrat Rick Weiland and the state’s former Republican Senator, Larry Pressler, who now identifies as an Independent....

The whole country is drifting decidedly leftward.

Absolutely. To the point where I question even whether Hillary is now too conservative to be an acceptable Democrat nominee.

The problem is that 71 year old Larry Pressler, who lost that senate seat to Tim Johnson 18 years ago, wants “his seat back.” I would sure like to know who his financial backers are. After he lost to Johnson, Pressler did not move back to SD to live. I think he has been living on the east coast this past years.

This should have been a sure victory for the Republicans but
Pressler sure is gumming up the works.

the Republidums are being outdone by the "boots on the ground" everywhere

They can always rely on their union thug cadres and AmeriCorps. What incentive has the GOPe given any of us to go around knocking on doors for them?

Rove wants Pressler. A go to moderate.

For the same reason the GOP is quietly backing Orman and has ditched MI.

Yeah, the GOP has cancelled at least $1 million in advertising in Michigan just as Terry Land pulls even with her Democratic opponent. Go figure. The incompetence of the RSCC is breath-taking.

Rove wants Pressler.

Which is why I'm supporting Rounds.

I’m really perplexed by this.....

Another reason I can’t stand Pressler. Sour grapes over getting ousted by Johnson because Pressler believes that’s his seat.

Tom Dashle came from South Dakota. Not a red state then.

There’s not enough money (Conservatives aren’t donating) so they’re triaging the races. Dems are dumping $1 mil at least into SD, which is a better shot at a GOP win than MI is. So the GOP now needs to counter, and the money needs to be taken from other races.

The GOP is begging for money and they still haven’t got a clue.

Yes - they’re quietly backing Orman by sending numerous operatives to stump for Roberts and by running attack ads against Orman over the airwaves.

Indeed - things like Obamacare, energy policy, etc. aren’t “policies”

The GOP does not have two Presidents (Clinton and Obama) doing record numbers of fundraisers. If all of these conservative $$$ supposedly were not going to the campaign committees to explain the disparity, the candidates and conservative campaign committees should be flush with enough cash to make up the difference - they don’t.

Pressler twice endorsed Obama - that should tell you all you need to know as to where this is coming from. The Democrats strike again with another fake “independent”

“Pressler will caucus with the Republicans”

Didn’t Pressler back Obummer in 2008 and 2012?
