Well, this is hitting uncomfortably close to home, because it is home.

Why would anybody want to go to Sudan, or any other country in the African hellhole?

There has not been an outbreak of Ebola in Sudan since 2004. Probably malaria, dengue, or some other disease that is rampant in Africa.

So he may have lied about where he traveled.

Imagine that.

There are huge immigrant communities in New York, from every corner of the world. Likely this person is of Sudanese descent and went back to visit.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Ebola has been ruled out already

Brooklyn teen who recently returned from a trip to Sudan was rushed to the hospital Friday night with Ebola-like symptoms, but was ultimately cleared of the deadly disease, officials told the Daily News.

One wonders which miraculous test they've developed in Brooklyn to determine Ebola ruled out with certainty

Probably where he’s from. Before it’s over, the democrats will likely just offer citizenship to everyone in Africa. We can put them all on obamacare.

Notice that the first Ebola guy they imported was a sympathetic figure; missionary, doctor, giving of himself?

We all knew he was being used like a cheap, selfish, napkin. He was willing used to open the door.

Brooklyn teen hospitalized with Ebola-like symptoms after returning home from the Sudan

I traveled to Africa many times years before Ebola first appeared and came home with Ebola-like symptoms almost every time.

We had two cardinal rules concerning travel to that place: (1) If you don't breath the air, drink the water and eat the food, you probably won't get too sick; and (2) If you do get sick, don't see a doctor.

Scanning electron microscope. Quick if profile is compared to an already-known virus.

But I wonder how many scanning electron microscopes are around an average metropolitan area?

He went to the hospital with a fever and was quarantined. They probably cleared him after figuring that Sudan is not experiencing an Ebola outbreak at the moment.

Are we supposed to treat everyone who comes into the hospital with a fever as potential Ebola? Quarantining each and every patient? Are our hospitals even capable of providing this type of care?

ERs in the big cities were a nightmare of pandemonium before Ebola. Imagine them now. And how many people will die waiting for a doctor or a hospital bed to free up when everyone running a fever is quarantined?

This "epidemic" is going to crush our health care institutions.

Your source - the NY Post - apparently hasn't gotten the message. This is from the NY Daily News:

It’s nice to see a picture of Brooklyn. Looks like they gentrified the place.

Yes, I wonder that, too. I understand that they can detect presence of antibodies, but you have to have been infected for several days before antibodies are detectable. And I’ve read that the tests all have high false negative rates as well. It does make one very skeptical, doesn’t it?

There are probably more scanning electron microscopes than anyone can count in New York City.

That said, the chances that anyone from Brooklyn would be Index Case #1 from Sudan is remote. Sudan hasn't had any reported cases of Ebola, unlike Spain and the United States.

Not that there aren't a host of other biological agents that you might find in the Sudan, from viruses, fungi, bacteria, parasites and up to some of the Sudanese that are very dangerous and can kill you. But Ebola doesn't seem to be one of them, yet.
