CDC chief on second Ebola case: There was a breach in protocol
CBS News ^ | October 11, 2014 | REBECCA KAPLAN

The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said there was "clearly" a breach in protocol that led to a Texas health care worker contracting Ebola after treating a Liberian man who later died from the virus, although authorities do not yet know what that breach was.

"We're deeply concerned about this new development," Dr. Thomas Frieden said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday. "I think the fact that we don't know of a breach in protocol is concerning because clearly there was a breach in protocol. We have the ability to prevent the spread of Ebola by caring safely for patients."

"The fact is that the individual who became ill was, as per protocol, self monitoring. Immediately when they developed symptoms they isolated themselves, they were promptly isolated at the hospital so that any further spread from that individual was stopped," Frieden added.

"That Romero may have gotten Ebola while doing her job is a major cause of concern, especially if she did -- as she told Spanish newspaper El Mundo -- follow the necessary protocols while caring for the missionary.

"Dr Daniel Varga: “All of our workers are following recommended precautions” The hospital, he said, was still confident that the precautions put in place would protect workers when interacting with patients at the hospital.

> ... says there’s “ another person in isolation”...

Don’t be the least bit surprised if the entire flock of clueless family members, responders, health care workers and clean-up crews start turning up positive over the next week or so.

Also expect responders and health care workers to begin job actions or stay home entirely.

Ready to shelter-in-place for 60 days or so?

The travel ban will happen on its own when airline employees refuse to fly and service the planes. The first hint of this is in progress in NJ now. The general public is going to boycott planes pretty quickly anyway.

Update at 9:50 a.m.: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will have a news conference at 10 a.m. to address the new Ebola case in Dallas.

In a written statement, the CDC said it expects that the disease will be contained.

“This is understandably disturbing news for the patient, the patient’s family and colleagues and the greater Dallas community,” the statement said. “The CDC and the Texas Department of State Health Services remain confident that wider spread in the community can be prevented with proper public health measures including ongoing contact tracing, health monitoring among those known to have been in contact with the index patient and immediate isolation if symptoms develop.”

“- The CDC has become the Obama Vatican. We now have an American Pope -”

I do not think you know just how close to the truth you are. The pope is a commie. And as with all commies they do not like each other.

Would be interesting to track his past statements to see if he is one of those leftist nutters that actually thinks culling the human population is a good idea. He is THAT creepy!

I work in a large hospital - part of our mission is accepting and treating international patients.

His reasoning: “There MUST have been a breech in protocol, because otherwise, our protocol isn’t good enough.”

What USED TO BE on the Web page of the CDC as of 8/2/14:

“In this guidance healthcare personnel (HCP) refers all persons, paid and unpaid, working in healthcare settings who have the potential for exposure to patients and/or to infectious materials, including body substances, contaminated medical supplies and equipment, contaminated environmental surfaces, or contaminated air. “

Transmission of Ebola virus from pigs to non-human primates

A study conducted in 2012 showed that Ebola was able to travel between pigs and monkeys that were in separate cages and were never placed in direct contact.

My opinion, based on these articles, is that Ebola can spread via the air but only in enclosed spaces. Once outside UV rays kill it.

“I hope they learn from this that they need to tell the public what is happening and stop filtering the news based on their own fear of reactions. Truth first. No manipulation of public opinion.”

You need to understand that politically this is a very sensitive time for the democrats. If the public panics it could effect their chances in the upcoming elections.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there are not others that are being covered up...
