S.D. Senate Race Tightens Amid Green-Card Scandal
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 10, 2014 | Adam O'Neal

Virtually every major electoral forecaster had described the three-way race in South Dakota -- along with likely lopsided contests in West Virginia and Montana -- as a sure thing for Republicans hungry to win a Senate majority.

Top Democrats have come to disagree with the conventional wisdom, however. And they’re betting serious money against it.

Signs of Democratic optimism surfaced last week. RCP reported Public Policy Polling’s Tom Jensen assertion that the race “is just as competitive as the ones in places like New Hampshire and Michigan that have drawn far more attention.”

Then the levee broke: Bloomberg Politics reported Wednesday that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee will be spending $1 million in an effort to defeat Rounds -- a serious late-in-the-game investment for South Dakota’s relatively inexpensive media market. The news followed reports earlier this week that Harvard Law professor Lawrence Lessig’s Mayday PAC would be spending $1 million to support Weiland.

Some polling suggests the race is tightening, but why are these groups willing to spend seven-figure sums on a contest Republicans are favored to win?

Democrats believe the answer lies in perceptions of Rounds’ vulnerability due to his handling of EB-5, a federal program established in 1990 that grants green cards to foreign investors who sink at least a half-million dollars into projects in the United States. The Sioux Falls Argus Leader described South Dakota’s EB-5 situation as a “complex affair at the intersection of government, business, crime and politics,” one that has “spawned numerous bankruptcies, lawsuits, audits and investigations.”

RCP still rates the race “likely GOP.” The RCP average shows Rounds with about 39 percent of the vote; Weiland earns 27 percent; and independent Larry Pressler (who spent three terms in the Senate as a Republican) takes in 23 percent.

Dems and Liberal PAC dumping a total $2 Million into this race at the last minute. Is it possible the GOP could screw around and lose SD? I've really looked into the SD Race lately because I saw some "Red Flags" earlier about this race that for months was considered a "given" for the GOP. Former Governor Mike Rounds (R), who has run a horrible campaign just sitting on his butt doing nothing, was polling 35%, at that time, in a 4-man race.

I wonder when Claire McCaskill will call the Dem candidate and tell him drop out like she did in Kansas? Pressler, a Former GOP Senator is more liberal than the Dem candidate Weiland.

Nonsense----Democrats are on the wrong track----EB-5's are Obama's problem.

Obama henchman/appointee, Leon Rodrigues, at USCIS (a DHS agency)----has been rubber-stamping undesirables from 144 countries into the US. Rodrigues oversees EB-5 visas. Under Rodrigues' purview---EB-5's are said to involve major threats to US national security:

No less a five-star patriot than Sen Charles Grassley (REPUB--IOWA) ---- issued a statement in which ICE identified key vulnerabilities in EB-5 visas:

1) Export of sensitive technology/economic espionage.

2) Use by foreign government agents/espionage.

3) Use by terrorists.

4) Investment fraud by regional center.

5) Investment fraud by investors.

6) Fraud conspiracies by investors and regional center.

7) Illicit finance/money laundering.

REPUBLICANS NEED TO ASK---ARE OBAMA/RODRIGUES SELLING US CITIZENSHIP TO MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS-ISIS-CONTAGIOUS FOREIGNERS?

Why should I not be concerned? A state that everyone just knew would be a pick-up for the GOP is now in play. I, like everyone else, wasn’t even following this race. When I read a comment, in a non-related thread someone made here on FR, that the race was tightening. I, honestly, had to do a Google Search to find out which candidate was the Pubbie. I almost went into a comatose state when I saw him polling at 35% in a four-man race.

I really wish you wouldn’t start the “troll” s**t so early in the morning. I’d be willing to bet that I’ve been active in Conservative Politics (poll worker, District GOP Chairman, Campaign Manager.....) more than half of your lifetime. And, I admit, it would not break my heart to see McConnell (KY) and Cockroach (MS) lose. But, I still want the GOP to win control of the Senate. And we can’t do that losing seats like SD. BTW, there is a thread on here that was posted last night, I believe, in which Karl Rove and Joe Trippi declared yesterday on FOX that Roberts and McConnell will lose. Cockroach is safe.

I replied to you in Post #10. But, one last comment. This is NOT all I post. Check the threads this morning. I post as many pertinent articles as I can so there can be discussion here on FR. Seems like the ones who carry most of the load for posting articles for discussion are 2ndDivVet and Cotton1706. I’m just trying to help out.

” I believe, in which Karl Rove and Joe Trippi declared yesterday on FOX that Roberts and McConnell will lose. Cockroach is safe.”

No, Trippi said it, but not Rove. Trippi proved himself a moron in doing so. There is exactly Zero chance that the KY turtle will lose, and it is damn unlikely that Roberts will.

Trippi was doing his best too cheer up demonrats and not depress the vote by admitting it is a lost cause. He knows better, but was going through the motions.

How much Democrat money did Pressler get for his campaign? Funding third party challengers is the Democrats’ path to victory. Bill Clinton never had over 50% of the votes because Ross Perot ran as a third party candidate and sank the GOP candidate. He used his own money, but since most candidates aren’t that rich, the Democrat fat cat contributors now fund third party candidates to siphon votes from Republicans. It works.

But, if you read the article, which I’m sure you did, you must remember that Karl Rove did NOT include KY in his list of “winners”.

Exactly. But, why does the GOP allow it to happen every, freakin’ election cycle? Why does the GOP not answer with a “Green Party” candidate or an “Independent” candidate of their own?

I watched it yesterday, Rove listed the Demonrats seats that would flip to give Republicans senate control.

No, he didn’t list KY as one of those seats, obviously that isn’t a Demonrat seat!

Democrats always come home to the plantation. Communist Party, USA stopped even running candidates at the turn of the century because the Democrat party was so close to their views.
