Throwing Darwin a Curve

by Randy J. Guliuzza, P.E., M.D. *

“The pitch cuts the inside corner of the plate for strike two.” That familiar sound is heard on radios around the world. In fact, some of the best pitchers in America are not Americans. Great pitching ability is not limited to ethnicity or geography, but rather to human beings alone. Great pitchers make it look so easy, and “practice makes perfect,” but it helps that the brain power necessary for control, neurological connections, and muscular arrangements for the human arm are exceedingly better than any system that exists on the planet. Is throwing a ball really that complex?

Live by God alone FRiend.
And you are sadly mistaken. People who believe in the Bible literally have good reason for it. It is the most tested and proven book in the world. The Koran on the other hand; when people try to examine it and critically think about it, they disappear.
You’ve got some anger in you, it needs direction away from FR.

Build up lunacy? No - that’s for the AGW crowd. No one that spouts such moronic things should be supported by anyone unless they surpass the author in his idiocy. It’s such poorly thought out leaps of failed logic that get us tagged as sub-genius by those smarmy air heads on the left.

Great post! For those of us who refuse to be indoctrinated by satanic lies, these articles are always a breath of fresh air.

Biblical literalism is ridiculous. That is my message. To hold the Bible up as literal truth is the same as agreeing with the Koran freaks of the Taliban and ISIS.

Comparing Christians to the Taliban and Isis "freaks" eh? Nice, you vile wretch. Who cares what some heathen bomb thrower thinks is ridiculous? You told him to get lost, and I tell you to get lost, fool. This is a Pro-God forum, not a place for you to attack innocent Freepers just because you feel the pull of hell on your soul.

Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

That is what we should live by.

Why does every infidel always fancy himself a master theologian?

Friend, what is the greatest commandment given to us by Christ?

Friend, what is the greatest commandment given to us by Christ?

What, to love one another? I am not sure if it can be interpreted in a way that we must be nice to people who compare the literal scriptures to the Koran as read by the Taliban:

Mat_23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

If the wretch does not like the treatment, he should lay off the terrorist comparisons.

I didn’t like it either. Which is why I told him so. Don’t forget, we are ALL wretches and deserving of eternal damnation brother.
Please, any time you see me “running off the reservation” and writing words of anger, put me in line!

So...a brain with a very large number of neurons, and an otherwise weak/hairless/pale body, discovered that throwing rocks accurately was very helpful to survival. Those proto-humans who didn't have that "freak" nerve clustering, and/or the inclination to leverage it, didn't survive to propagate their throwing-inept DNA and/or accompanying memes. Throwing a rock fits in with the general tool-using process, which other animals express but humans have leveraged from mere shell-bashing to instant worldwide communications, baseball, and assault weapons (which are little more than sophisticated rock-chuckers).

The problem is people who declare their interpretation of Scripture as infallible - deeming themselves better understanding of God’s word than God Himself.

When an interpretation of Scripture is plainly at odds with a plain interaction with Creation, have some humility to say “this is what I think this means, but don’t know how to reconcile it with that.”

Careful.....the non sequitors might be arguably such...but use of the term “vapid” betrays your own emotional bias which spoils your reasoning process! One might start to think you are a repressed Sunday School teacher!

Art thou a God who condescendeth much?

“To hold the Bible up as literal truth is the same as agreeing with the Koran freaks of the Taliban and ISIS. “

Do you really think that the Christian conservatives here are anything like ISIS and the Taliban? The Bible is the literal truth of God as he wants us to know it. You’ll get strong arguments from Freepers regarding that belief but the worst the vast majority of us would ever do to you is to invite you out to a high cholesterol laden chicken dinner at the local church if you wanted to come!

The fact that you even compare such Christians to the murderous thugs of ISIS says something about YOU all right! You pretend to be this pseudo intellectual scientific minded individual but then you depart logic by a completely ridiculous bomb throwing ad hominem. Excuse me Mr. Intellectual but you are abusing Reason like a cheap whore to your malignant bias!

The very freedoms you celebrate were routed in Bible believing Christians who helped frame this nation. Yes a few founding fathers might have been agnostics but the breadth and spine of our nation’s traditions were founded by literalist Bible Christians...you know the type that you claim are just like ISIS. You won’t get your head chopped off by Literalist Bible believers in this nation or FR....you might get yelled at maybe, argued with or horror of horrors PRAYED FOR!

"Biblical literalism is ridiculous"

The better word would be fundamentalism, which is defined as a Protestant religious movement emphasizing the literal infallibility of the Bible.

"of the Bible" means "of the entire Bible", which means you have to handle snakes and speak in tongues.
