Woman’s home ‘stolen’ by squatter who moved in & filed a deed with NYC –

despite her family owning property since 1931
Imagine arriving at your own home and finding out a stranger is not only squatting there — he’s claiming the place for himself after he re-keyed ALL the locks to the house. AND even though you can prove the house isn’t his the courts drag their feet about evicting him because after all it is the guys residence– IN YOUR HOUSE! hat’s the nightmare that an elderly New York City woman is living, and now she is fighting to get back the house that she says an ex-con stole from her by filing a fraudulent deed and breaking in.

‘It just devastates me,’ Jennifer Merin told the New York Post. ‘The house was maintained basically as sanctuary to my family.’

Merin says that 49-year-old Darrell Beatty and his sons — Darrell Kash, 25, and DeShaun, 22 — have been living at the home in Queens since February. She says Beatty filed a bogus deed and moved into the house, which Merin wasn’t renting, then changed all the locks. She found out that the house that her grandparents, who immigrated from the Ukraine and Russia, bought in 1931 had been lifted back in May, when the water bill for the previously-empty home skyrocketed.

When Merin when to check, she found the locks had been changed and her 1992 Subaru Outback missing — along with most of her possessions. All of her family’s heirlooms — vintage furniture, photos, a classic television set — were piled in the garage like trash.

‘Everything from Chinese palace vases to my underwear,’ she told the Post.

Merin says that Beatty filed a deed transfer claiming that he bought the house in 2013 from a woman named ‘Edith Moore’ — who doesn’t seem to exist, according to public records.

‘I see them coming and going,’ a neighbor said of the Beatty trio to the Post. ‘I don’t think they talk to nobody in the neighborhood.’

The city’s Finance Department says the deed was indeed fraudulently transferred in 2013. A judge has approved an eviction for Beatty, but the order was stayed because the squatter says he is having health problems. Several reporters have attempted to confront Beatty outside his home, but he always refuses to comment. He only confirms his version of the story: that the house is his.

Shame on those men for taking over a house that isn’t theirs and SHAME on the court system for NOT evicting these criminals from the property IMMEDIATELY!

once the deed issue is straightened out and she is the “owner” again you can be sure they will be after her for the taxes he did not pay.

The system is working for dishonest people.

Health problem? who the heck cares, it’s not his, he stole it, get him the heck out of it.

shessh this stuff is making me mad.

I would do all of that, and shoot them when they came in.

Shotguns are fun to use.

Why would they not be immediately arrested for theft and fraud? I don’t get it.

Because the system is broken. Criminals now have more rights than law abiding citizens.

If I were the owner I would hire some Banditos or Mongels to "evict" them.

In NYC, you have no right to use force for defending property. You’d be charged with assault or murder.

Government failure all the way across the board. There’s no reason that the property recording system needs to be this dumb. It can still be user friendly and avoid fraud. Amazon does.

Plus, the judge is an utter dolt. Most are. We need to return to the Rule of Law and strong property rights. If this guy and his son were hung next week, these types of crimes would fall to zero.

IDK...

I’d vote not guilty if I was on the jury.

How these squatter situations go on longer than about 8 minutes boggles my mind.

Yep. The key is to act quickly. The longer you let them stay, the more difficult it is to evict them. The real owner will lose some money in the process, but you gotta put some up to get rid of vermin.

As others said, get some goons to apply force. I have friends who can call in a biker gang. Or you can show up yourself with a couple friends and sledgehammers, and bust all the doors and windows. Repeat and rinse until they leave. Spray a bunch of graffiti on the house; the neighbors will force authorities to act. If you're really desperate, bust a window and put a garden hose into the house and turn it on full. It will make the house unlivable until fixed. As I said, it's going to cost some money but you'll reclaim the house.

When the criminal is away from the house, get a locksmith to open it, and give her the key. Jam other locks. When squatter criminal comes back, shoot him for B&E/home invasion/castle defense. Her atty needs to have a deeds/tax records/ownership docs ready for court. Demand a jury trial.

The "Law" and common sense are two completely different things.

Socialists are nothing more than thieves looking for ways to steal and not pay the consequences, so they write laws to help themselves, and clever crapweasles like squatters (and lawyers) quickly move to take advantage of those "Laws".

Here the thief used the time period the residence was unoccupied to change title, and obtain documents showing that property as HIS address.

This is a legality that is tough to beat, if the police willingly cooperate with the thief. They do not have to, and can use creative police work to temporarily remove all the squatters while agents hired by the homeowner re occupy the residence with similar paperwork as that used by the squatter.

The only reason this happens is because the police bend to the will of the Socialist politicians running the county. They could use the same dirty tricks that the squatters use, against the squatters themselves, if they wished.

The civilized response is to wait for the courts to do their job. There are times when being civilized is not the correct answer.

Yes, thinking the same thing myself. Not a fan of the mafia by any means, but these three would never be seen or heard from again if Tony Bagadonuts and the boys paid them a visit.

“I would do all of that, and shoot them when they came in.

Yeah. I have three. But, as fun as it is to say, you know you can’t just kill them, deserving or not. But my plan gives you the higher ground. You have possession, and,,,, you have the real deed, and the hall of records to back you up. You win. They lose. And you don’t have to live with the fact that you killed people. Of course, you might not have to even shoot! The sight of that bore on a 12 gauge makes guys eyes widen way up!

"This is why we have the Mafia. They can probably take care of the problem for $2,500."

Mafia are scum. This is why we need an organization like the Klan but without the racial angle. I would join TODAY. Maybe I should start one. From minor criminal issues like this to providing 'direction' to wayward corporations, politicians, judges, reporters, celebrities, and other assorted traitors to the constitution - it needs to happen. The rule of law in the country has become a joke. Some form of power WILL fill that void. Anyone have any better suggestions?

correct, but there is no money in it for the police, so they call it a civil matter.

Cops can be like a box o’ chocolates.

However: as a cop, allow me to tell you that in a case such as this, I would dig into it. .investigate it, and send it to to court with alacrity and aplomb! They could not...would not ...ignore it. Shooting fish in a barrell!

Cases like this...where one has egregious violation of criminal law....are the gold ring. I can actually do something meaningful.

Ya just gots to call!

“Don’t think so”

I know so. For fact. Cops cannot evict based on at the scene reports. Not at all. They merely have to walk away. They often are helpless as they make the homeowner actually leave the property.
