Maybe a homeless male veteran was seen somewhere. They could blame him again and put some kind of case together.

Ebola. It’s for everybody.

This smells like blame-shifting to me.

She did not have a “slight fever”. Everyone’s body temperature varies by about +/- one degree from average during the day. A bit of exercise — say walking to the parking lot during a hot Texas day — may raise your temperature further.

If everyone with a temperature of 99.6*F (at some point during the day) were quarantined — then nearly everyone would soon be quarantined.

BTW, when Daniel Fahrenheit created his euphonious scale, he determined that 100* was the average human body temperature. We now know it to be closer to 98.6* — but you don’t have any sort of a fever, if your temperature is under 100*F. If you have a slightly elevated temperature, and are feeling other symptoms (chills, nausea, etc.) then you need to be concerned.

Perhaps but if they had done this in 2013 we would not be talking about this and at least thousands of lives would be saved and as time goes on who knows how many more?

While that part of my post was in jest.... its not a bad idea.

Around this time of the year when the common cold and typical flu begin to go around, what do the health bureaucrats tell everybody about keeping themselves healthy during this time of the year.

1. Cover your mouth when you cough, making sure to go snot sleeve rather than coughing into your hand.
2. Wash your hands frequently.
3. If you get sick, don’t go to work. Keep your sickness to yourself.

I look at the incompetent response of Uhbamuh, the CDC goofball and the sense I have gotten from them has been, “Well, we want to take precautions for cold and flu, because we always have that here. Ebola? Just a fluke it is here in the first place. No precautions needed.”

And yet on their own website, what does the CDC tell us?

How long does Ebola live outside the body?
Ebola is killed with hospital-grade disinfectants (such as household bleach). Ebola on dried on surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops can survive for several hours; however, virus in body fluids (such as blood) can survive up to several days at room temperature.

We’re told that the Frontier plane has been disinfected and will be put back in service today. How many people serviced the plane after the flight? Did the infected person use the bathroom and how many people on the flight used the restroom after she did? Do we assume she washed her hands when she went if she used the airplane restroom? What other surfaces did she potentially come in contact with that could have been infected?

At some point an American male who is not a medical professional is going to get infected. Given that ebola can remain alive in semen for around 3 months, are we going to simply trust somebody won’t be stupid and not have sex or not use a condom during the time when they feel good, but can still infect through sex?

Understand that I think the chance infection from contact with a random surface in the airport I am not particularly concerned with, unless the infected went to the restroom in the airport. But given the kinds of precautions we are asked to take for other illnesses, what are we to think of what should be done in the case of one of the most deadly diseases on the planet?

Has anyone said when she traveled to Cleveland? This may be important information to have too.

You’re certainly not wrong, but under the circumstances, common sense should demand caution. Everyone involved should have demonstrated more concern.

I jokingly say my normal temp is more like 96.8, but that’s pretty close to being accurate. I feel icky at 100.

I agree — these are extraordinary circumstances, and an abundance of caution is called for.

However, it still smells like blame-shifting to me. The CDC, the Hospital, and anyone else responsible for the protocols that are supposed to keep health-care workers (and the rest of us) safe — they all blew it. Now, they’re trying to lay the blame on someone who they failed to protect.

Perhaps the nurse was culpable — perhaps she lost all sense of reason, because she really wanted to get to that wedding. I doubt that — who wants to gamble with the lives of their family and friends? More likely (IMHO) she was thinking that she was safe, because she did what the CDC and the Hospital medical staff told her to do.

A few more people flying in or around with Ebola, and the airline industry grinds to a halt. No way would I take an airplane anywhere right now.

I was thinking that whoever this nurse was, she may have had an abundance of trust in the wisdom of the governing officials. It is sad. I read a couple of books on the influenza pandemic of 1918 several years ago. So many unwise choices were made by officials at that time. Communities which took the threat seriously and took what might be called drastic actions today, were spared. How many people her age have much knowledge of that pandemic and its devastation?

If you’re a true believer in the theory, short airline stocks and become wealthy!

Last paragraph in the NBC News article: <<<

Emory University Hospital treated two other Americans, Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, earlier in the outbreak. They recovered and were later released. It is treating another Ebola patient who arrived Sept. 9 and has not been publicly identified.

What's that about?

This whole burgeoning episode reminds me of a cult movie called Idiocracy, which is often credited as more terrifying prophesy than comedy. In the movie, our nations collective intelligence has collapsed as a result of the intelligent citizens self-limiting their own breeding, while the idiots kept banging out the kids by the bushel. End result is a nation of idiots making the dumbest decisions possible. As a cherry on top - the president is a black man lol.

If my temperature ever goes up to 98.6, that means I’m sick. I normally run 96 - 97. Point is, there is a range of normal temperatures, so judging whether someone is sick or well by taking temps is a formula for disaster.

I wonder if anyone had close personal relations with the nurse in Cleveland? I bet he’s feeling a little green between the gills right now.
