'Who's the idiot with the clipboard?' Disbelief and panic as mystery man WITHOUT a hazmat suit

'Who's the idiot with the clipboard?' Disbelief and panic as mystery man WITHOUT a hazmat suit helps second Ebola nurse board her plane to Atlanta, disposes waste and then climbs aboard (full title)

Man casually dressed in shirt and pants seen on TV walking with Ebola patient Amber Vinson

He carried a clipboard and walked alongside Ms Vinson and healthcare workers who were ALL dressed in Hazmat suits

He has been identified as a supervisor for Phoenix Air, the company that flew Miss Vinson to Atlanta

Miss Vinson walked onto the plane in Dallas and the man without protection also boarded the plane, flying with her to Atlanta, Georgia

Social media has dubbed him the 'clipboard man' -

As news helicopters swarmed over Dallas' Love Field on Wednesday evening to watch the second U.S. nurse to contract Ebola board a private plane bound for Atlanta, one lone mysterious man stood out from the pack.

Holding a clipboard and directing the transfer, the unidentified man seemed to be the only person on the tarmac without protective clothing, wearing just a button down shirt and slacks.

While Ebola is not an airborne disease, his presence so close to patient Amber Vinson's medical team sparked fears after he was seen grabbing a container and Hazmat trash bag from one of the workers' in full-protective gear and later boarding the flight.

He then flew with Vinson and the other Hazmat-suited medical staff to Atlanta and local television crews spotted him with the stricken nurse as she disembarked at the airport in Georgia to be transferred to Emory University Hospital.

When the plane landed in Atlanta, the man had still not donned any protective clothing and was seen openly interacting with Vinson and the other medical professionals caring for the nurse.

Shock. Just shock.

The people in Africa are more cautious than this. And look how it is spreading there.

Even through the haz-mat suit, I can see the “What the @#$%” expression the guy on the right is making.

Well, the ebola is contained within a hazmat suit, so everything outside it is protected. An extension of the logic in the post is everyone should be in a hazmat suit.

Then you are hearing the WRONG thing, It is NOT an airborne disease. That is a scientific fact.

Only in the narrow sense that the virus doesn't float around on its own (maybe). But it definitely does float around in droplets of water vapor that comes from breath, sneezes and coughs. And like the flu virus it remains on surfaces and infectious for hours.

It spreads JUST LIKE a cold:

"How is the common cold transmitted?

The common cold is spread either by direct contact with infected secretions from contaminated surfaces or by inhaling the airborne virus after individuals sneeze or cough. Person-to-person transmission often occurs when an individual who has a cold blows or touches their nose and then touches someone or something else. A healthy individual who then makes direct contact with these secretions can subsequently become infected, often after their contaminated hands make contact with their own eyes, nose, or mouth. A cold virus can live on objects such as pens, books, telephones, computer keyboards, and coffee cups for several hours and can thus be acquired from contact with these objects."

It is dangerous and deadly, but more people will die of the flu this rear, by a HUGE margin (tens of thousands). Wanna quarantine people then quarantine people with the flu.

The flu affects hundreds and hundreds of thousands and has a very low death rate. The odds greatly favor living over death. By comparison, if one picks up the ebola virus the odds are that they're going to die and that everyone else you infect will die too.

That’s got to be a member of Obama’s media team, there to place the cameras correctly and coordinate the proper release of images. :)

When I worked as a courier toward the end of my working career I picked up all manner of hazardous waste that was in sealed containers; however, I wore no protective gear whatsoever. Didn’t get sick. Maybe I was lucky.

the Ebola scare tactics are nothing more than fear mange ring control

Like the 80% death rate for those who contract Ebola. It's right up there with the flu's fatality rate. (not)

Phoenix Air is the same company that flew the Samaritan’s Purse workers out of Liberia IIRC. They have a contract with the State Dept for $5million a pop as needed transport of Ebola victims. Phoenix Air allegedly owns the only aircraft set up for such containment. The guy with the clipboard isn’t a fool. He must have been immunized. This certainly does get interesting.

I agree that fear mongering is uncalled for. It is true that millions of people will get the flu this year and thousands will die from its complications. If millions of people got this nasty virus, millions would die. It is better safe than sorry, but from a rational position.

Interesting.
Leave it to FR to come up with such tidbits.

Now if the nurse has something other than what clipboard guy has been immunized against...

Or the guy is an alien:)

I wonder which one of FR's own ex-spurts that is???

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
