I think the Mayor backed down because she realizes it would have turned into one REALLY ugly First Amendment case. She was actually asking for cellphone text messages between the pastor and parishoners!

The obvious - for the pastors is to pull the lerner defense.
The problem is that pastors are probably too honorable to lie.
