I strongly suspect that you don’t need a “license” to own a gun in TN. There seems to be a trend in media to refer to gun owners and their firearms as “licensed” when they mean legal. I suspect it’s to make the people think needing permission from the government to own firearms is normal.

I read the link that marktwain provided above (post 3 or 4?), and the person the SS was after is stated to have a CCW. That's it. No view of a gun by anybody responding, etc.
I do agree with your point. The press and many in the government aim to discourage gun ownership.
