UPDATE: WOMAN BEING TESTED FOR EBOLA AT INOVA LOUDOUN
Loudon Times ^ | 10-16-2014 | Crystal Owens

Posted on 10/16/2014 1:29:57 PM PDT by tcrlaf

Health care workers at Inova Loudoun in Lansdowne are currently testing a patient who is presenting symptoms of the Ebola virus, according to Tony Raker, spokesperson for Inova Healthcare Systems.

Raker said Inova is in contact with the county health department and the Centers for Disease Control at this time. He could not provide further details on the patient.

A release from the county says Loudoun County Fire and Rescue took an inmate with a low-grade fever from the Adult Detention Center to Inova Lansdowne Hospital. The patient had traveled from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa within the past 21 days.

As a precautionary measure, because the inmate had traveled from a high-risk area known for Ebola outbreaks, the inmate was isolated and monitored at the ADC. Out of an abundance of caution, protective measures were put in place and EMS transported the patient to the Emergency Room in the Basic Life Support unit.

It's not known what the woman was arrested for and if any Adult Detention Center deputies or inmates were in contact with the patient.

We MUST stop the travel from West Africa, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. (It might already be too late)

Naaah ... Loudon County is too far outside the beltway. They probably won’t GAS.

Reading between the lines, the inmate, just got in the country, and was incarcerated? So what was the charge?

We must also, before it is too late, start enforcing capital punishments on anyone using the phrase “Out of an abundance of caution ...”. It, too, is rapidly getting out of hand. If constitutional, this practice should be applied retroactively.

Duncan’s flight from Brussels landed at Dulles at 2:12pm. He then picked up his luggage from the carousel, went through customs, transferred to the domestic flights wing, checked his luggage for the Dallas flight, and then waited in the lounge until his 5:15 departure call. I don’t know if he got something to eat, or bought a newspaper, or used the bathrooms.

I’ve been waiting for the first case in northern Virginia now that the incubation period is about over.

“The patient had traveled from Ebola-affected areas of West Africa within the past 21 days. “

Obama, would you like some MORE Ebola served with those unrestricted West African visas? Why yes, I think I DO want some more Ebola. Thank you very much, Obama, for your thoughtfulness.

"If a Black Death could be spread throughout the world once in every generation survivors could procreate freely without making the world too full… The state of affairs might be somewhat unpleasant, but what of that? Really high-minded people are indifferent to happiness, especially other people’s." - Bertrand Russell, The Impact of Science on Society, 1953

Sure, it's tin-foil hat time, but does anyone think that Obama would hesitate for a second to kill as many people as possible especially in, say, Texas?

It’s not known what the woman was arrested for...

The feds will absolutely let anybody in this country. The more problematic they are, the more the politicians love them.

Subject: Ebola Update: PPE Super User Training Started Today

Team Inova,

Today Inova is beginning Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Super User Training for “Point of Entry” staff who would have initial contact with an Ebola patient. Today’s training includes representatives from all five hospitals and the Healthplexes. The Urgent and Emergency Care Centers and IMG offices will receive training for their Point of Entry Staff in the days to come.

Inova will continue to offer this Super User Training until all identified Super Users (each OU is identifying their team) have received training.

The trained Super Users will return to their locations and continue to train and practice (mock drills) with the teams from their location that most likely would need to wear PPE if an Ebola patient arrives.

Who Are The Point of Entry Staff:

The training is immediately focused on:

· Emergency Department Team members
· Radiology staff
· Environmental Services
· Security

Critical Care Unit Representatives– Will receive their own training specific to their environment soon. Emergency Management and Infection Prevention and Control are working with your leaders to schedule the training.

What type of PPE:

Inova is using Enhanced PPE – to further protect neck and head

1. It is the PPE we use in our Operating Rooms – Flyte Hoods
a. Supplies are in each location
b. More are on the way to create a stockpile

2. New PPE demonstration video/posters in development – In addition to the Super User Training, your local teams will have a PPE video and poster to help guide you.
a. Increased PPE Training and Drilling – Super Users from each location will work with your leadership to continually practice and train designated staff in PPE.

3. PPE Buddy System Required – Staff will partner when donning and doffing PPE as an additional preventative measure from staff contaminating themselves when removing PPE.

A third observer, an Ebola patient room monitor, will also observe the donning and doffing process of the PPE Buddies. In addition, this room monitor will document all staff who enter the Ebola patient’s room. This log is needed to monitor staff who have had contact with an Ebola patient.

Regular Ebola Updates:
Inova is committed to keeping staff informed on our progress with Ebola preparations. We will provide updates on the homepage of InovaNet as well as use Inova All emails for significant updates, like this notice about Super User Training.

As we continue to learn from the experiences from all the hospitals who have treated Ebola patients, we are adapting our plan to reflect the best known practice. Events are changing rapidly and our plans will be modified and enhanced as the information becomes available.

How To Stay Informed:
The InovaNet Ebola page is your best source of information. If you have additional questions, reach out to your leader, who can connect with the appropriate people to find you answers.

Your support in our Ebola preparations and training of staff is appreciated. Please print and post the attached document and share with your teams who don’t have easy access to email.

EVP, CMO & President of Inova Medical Group

NBC4 says she arrived on October 13th. There was an outstanding warrant issued by Maryland and that's why she was in the Adult Detention Center.

Out of an abundance of caution, protective measures were put in place and EMS transported the patient to the Emergency Room in the Basic Life Support unit.

Abundance of caution, my aunt Fanny.

That ambulance should be out of service until the patient is definitively cleared or it is cleaned by a biohazard team. Same for the ER.

The EMS crew and hospital staff who dealt with her should have been wearing Level 4 Biosafety suits, AND have been trained how to take them on and off. They would need proper decontamination facilities for taking off the suits.

If those measures weren't in place, there was no abundance of caution, there were half-assed half-measures.

Proper measures - keep patient in home, specially suited response team evaluates patient and takes blood sample for PCR. Once evaluation and test results are known, if patient is likely Ebola victim, she should be transported by dedicated ambulance to dedicated facility.

Abundance of caution - no admission to foreigners who've been in affected countries. US citizens returning from affected countries to remain in quarantine at least three weeks.
