“The recent news events have handed the Republicans a rare opportunity to crush their opponents in the election. Yet, when you get away from the generic polls and start looking at individual races, things do look different. Obama is not on the ballot.”

True, Obama is not on the ballot and the opposition party’s strategy is 100% about voting against Obama. The GOP has no core convictions or positive agenda to vote FOR. Plus, unlike the Democrats who did a masterful job of destroying the Bush administration with feigned outrage over Katrina, they seem incapable of conceiving and pressing the same type of attack against any of the many real scandals of the current administration. Face it, when it comes to hardball politics, the Republicans are still playing T-ball at the local elementary school.

On point - the GOP is not going to win a national mandate. The Democrats are dirty rotten scoundrels and the national party refuses to hold them accountable.

What a shame.
