From a non-medical perspective, a cure for leprosy (Hansen’s disease) was actually discovered awhile back.

Dr. Hansen got a clue and put infected tissue under the microscope, identified the bacteria causing the problem which led to a cure. Possibly modest cure costs nonetheless prevent some people from getting cured.

I was reasonably sure there was treatment for it now. I didn’t remember this exactly though, so thanks for the mention and link.
