On Nov. 2, 2008, the Iraqi troops guarding the Dragons Egg were suddenly pulled from the outpost. Hartleys platoon was ordered to clear the compound and members found 40 shells simply lying around outside of the bunker.
What logical reason would exist for more than a decade to not dismantle this and de-weaponize it?
What's inside. If we didn't address it and the Iraqis who were supposed to didn't address it I'm guessing it's the sort of horribly expensive mess you get when the barrels decompose. You can't even fill the bunkers with concrete because the stuff will get out. Just a guess.
How do you dismantle somethinq that’s booby-trapped like this apparently was? There must be a way. If IS didn’t know how to do it then the stuff would have exploded onto them.
Depending what's in there, it may have been best to not disturb it.
