Vanity - CZ 2075BD RAMI 9mm Lugar
me | 10/19/14 | dean and gone

I'm considering getting one of these for daily carry.

In the extremely unlikely chance that a FReeper owns one, I'd like their opinions and advice...

Actually, I work with a guy who had one and it was a bad experience. He had serious feeding issues with it. He traded it off after working with the manufacturer for 2-3 months. They basically blamed everything on the ammo and I think he tried about every common type out there without success... even sent it in once and got it back acting the same way. I don’t know if this is the norm or not, but I can tell you he had a pretty bad time with his.

I have had no less than grade A results with the CZ 75 series . Worth any try after ya buy risk IMHO.

I think a Lugar (aka 9x19mm cartridge) is incapable of stopping anything dangerous except a conservative.

The FBI tends to disagree. Their reasoning is that most LEOs (and most other people) are lousy shots. Something like 85% of shots fired miss the lethal area of the target. Therefore, more bullets is better.

Furthermore, getting shot with anything hurts - a lot and no handgun has real “stopping power”. You want stopping power, bring a rifle or a shotgun but be aware that you are sacrificing the element of surprise, they’re heavy, awkward to lug around and people will look at you funny

I agree with all of that.

I shoot every Christmas against my son; one of my main clients who is a Naval Academy Alum and was on the Olympic rifle team; and another friend who was in Nam as a Ranger.

Two of them shoot Beretta Nines; the other one shoots 9mm Lugar rounds in a couple of different pieces. I shoot 9 x 17 rounds (.380) in a Walther or the Argentine copy (which I think is more accurate).

I consistently hit the middle of the hole in every shot; they are all accomplished shooters who don’t practice much and they don’t.

So my bottom line is a comfortable hand piece (I have the smallest hands) and accuracy over stopping power.

When we get to the point that you need to have military firepower every time to step off the porch, you leave a pump shotgun behind the seat and carry your AK-47.

My carry weapon is a S&W M&P22-12 loaded with CCI Stingers.

As has been pointed out, getting shot hurts. The .22 has zero muzzle rise and you can squeeze until empty at the same location.

Just my 2 cents.

Buy what you like, and suits your tastes and mission requirements.

I like it light and maneuverable. Others want a big bang. I won’t debate the merits of one is better than the other. It’s your weapon, buy what suits you.

good post. I have all manner of handguns and the only ones that work are the ones you have on you when you need it. I’d go out on a limb and say my 1911’s are the best handguns I own with the most reasonable cartridge for the job. Then you would catch me carrying a Ruger LCR .357 because a 5 pound 1911 just isn’t reasonable in most situations outside open carry or the car glove box. I even have a Para Slim Hawg .45 and I can’t keep my pants pulled up when I try to carry the thing. The big stuff isn’t comfortable and I tend to dread taking it with me... that’s why I stopped resisting and went with the light weight wheel gun. In fact, it’s such a good defensive fit, my wife got one for Christmas in .38 spcl. the best gun is reliable and in your possession when you need it.

For EDC I prefer the GyroJet in 13x50mm rocket.

lot’s of stuff that could snag...

I own a CZ RAMI and this is one point I would have to agree with. The slide serrations are very sharp and could snag. Doesn't mean I would never choose it for a carry piece, but IMO that is one thing which should be taken into consideration.

"I don’t know of anything that CZ makes that would be considered less than great."

I second that. I own a few of their products myself, and I find them rock solid reliable. I allowed my wife to practice with my P-01 and now I have to borrow it from her.

I have a CZ 550 American Magnum in 375 H&H Mag. It has stopping power, but I have a hard time with IWB carry. I may have to try at 12:00.

9mm with modern ballistics allows for 50% expansion. This means that a 9mm bullet (.355) actually expands to .5325 ,larger than 45 ACP.

Whenever possible.

Give me a suggestion for a good, light, compact American gun with fight ending stopping power.

9mm is at the very bottom end of my preferences.

My regular everyday weapon is a single action Para-Ordanance P-12 .45cal.....

It has a alloy frame and is fairly light and small...
Single action .45’s require a higher degree of training to carry in a “ready to go mode” as compared to other platforms....

My wife has a lightweight .38 wheelgun as her carry weapon.... each fits a specific need.... her weapon is easy to use, will never jam or misfire.... it only has 5 rounds though..

Or as I say, use good ammo and make damn sure you empty the magazine!

Oh please. Everyone knows that extensive testing proved that the Gyrojet round cauterized the entry wound and negated much of the effectiveness of the round.-)

Although I have no experience with that little number, I am a BIG fan of small pistols. My daily carry is both a Ruger LCP in 380...

...and a Kimber Ultra Carry in 45.

Both are outstanding shooters.

The beaver tail, hammer, sights and mag release look pretty rough too. It isn’t designed for carry.
