I don't think you are understanding me... I DONT BELIEVE HIS STORY about getting attacked. Yes, I believe he has probably been stopped and questioned regularly, as have many of us. He is probably stopped more often than others as he is walking through wooded roads in search during the middle of the night. But I have also run into state police and searchers several times and found them to polite and professional in every single instance. On one occasion I was clearly in their way. They not only didn't push me around or ask me to leave, they expressed a worry for my safety and told me to be very careful in that area. They are consistently very concerned about the well-being of the residents here. Could there be an occasional jerk among the hundreds of searchers? Of course. But every single one I have deal with has been perfectly courteous and trying hard to work the search area and protect residents and let us go about our lives at the same time.
Then I come onto Free Republic and see these same men and women being painted as the Gestapo and I am "Stalin" if I don't agree that "cops=pigs". It is like reading a New York Times article about Ronald Reagan. Twilight zone unreality.
I DONT BELIEVE HIS STORY about getting attacked. Then I guess you didn't read this part of the story where another cop, a state trooper, witnessed it:
"This went on for what seemed like 15 minutes or more when a state trooper who recognized Tully from previous questioning arrived and told the other officer that Tully was telling the truth about his name. The trooper held out a hand and helped Tully stand up and helped him gather the items he had been carrying, which were scattered on the ground.
No one apologized."
