Another post quite a while back mentioned that the bases in question were from the cold war era, abandoned, and are now being reopened. I don’t see this as anything startling.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Try to take this context: Russia is an expansionist power which has annexed the Crimea and parts of the Ukraine, moving toward Latvia and Estonia.NATO has done nothing.

What makes you conclude that there is no real danger in terms of the annexation of sovereign territories of Canada, Sweden and Norway, where there is NO permanant military defence presence as there was in the Crimea and Ukraine now annexed?

There are vast oil reserves at play for the keeping.

Russia already held that territory, as far as I know, and reactivating old bases is not shocking.

I’m not worried about oil - we have enough here for the next few centuries ... as the price is now ($80+) - it will not be economical for Russia to capture that oil. Their whole economy is predicated on oil above $100 bl.

Do you want to attack them? Start a real nuclear war? What is your solution? Sanctions?

The best solution is just to keep the price of oil below or near $80 - I heard one analyst say it will fall to $40 before rebounding. Those bases will close and be abandoned again, and the whole of the Russian economy and military expansion/upgrading will crash back to 1985 levels or below. That being the case, Putin will fall as well.

All the rest will once again pull back from Russia when it collapses as they did last time. This is Russia’s last pseudo-Communist hurrah.
