Guess I need an education - Is CBC different than CTV - are they both government-run news operations? Does Canada have privately owned stations? I know they don’t let US cable or satellite signals to be received.

Yep you need to be educated lol.... CTV is a private corporation ...CBC is the govt funded national network. All and I do mean ALL US news channels are broadcast in Canada and just about every other US channel also.
