““I wonder if anyone has run the cost incurred national for Thomas Duncan’s trip to America?”

I’ve heard a low number of $500K and a high number of a cool $1M. Clearly, only a racist country/hospital/medical staff would spend so little....”

Duncan’smedical bill alone wasa over 500,000, total cost to the US taxpayer is in the millions if not over 10 million.

Tracking over 1,000 contacts from him and the 2 nurses.the 2 nurses’ boyfriends, wedding party, Airline cancellations, plane decontaminations and out of service costs, the 2 flights on the ebola express evac plane, and on and on. And the meter is still running on Duncan’s escapades.

Monitored but free to roam the country and lick door handles if they’d like.

...

Consider the great job the feds do of “monitoring” illegal aliens.

I wouldn't say this does nothing. Yes, we would learn if they were sick even without monitoring, but I think the point of this monitoring is to identify potentially sick people faster.

The main window for transmission of Ebola is the time between when someone begins showing symptoms and the time at which they are diagnosed as having Ebola (or suspected of having it) - they are not contagious before the onset of symptoms, and after they are diagnosed tgey will be isolated. So, the more we can narrow that window, the less likely it is that the virus will be transmitted.

Just went to the oncologist. They are asking everyone if: they’ve traveled to West Africa in the last 3 weeks, if they know anyone with Ebola, if I’ve had any fever, throwing up or one other thing....can’t remember.

Loss of memory ;)

Who gets to pay for this and what’s to keep this from giving false information like most of the illegals?

That doesn’t cover two people coming in together, one of whom is in the incubation period and the other of whom contracts it later from the person he flew in with.

I’m sure someone else will say this.

It’s good to know that at least they’re asking those questions now. Hope it’s not too little, too late...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
