Why were no soldiers carrying loaded firearms at the Washington Navy Yard shooting where twelve people were killed just a year ago . . . because our idiot government thinks that trained soldiers cannot be trusted with firearms at work.

Apparently, our idiot government didn't trust them at Fort Hood either, and look what happened, a severe case of "workplace violence." Is there any doubt in your mind why I despise these government scum bags?

My suggestion would be that the rifles would be unloaded but that they have pistols holstered as side arms

Excellent suggestion. And if they didn't have loaded pistols before, they certainly should have them now.

But this is Obama's America. I wouldn't be surprised if the guards were ordered to exchange their rifles for wooden poles.

“Who do you want them to shoot?”

Really? Is that the best you can do numb-nuts?

How about this...I want them to shoot anyone that attacks them, especially if the attacker has recently converted to the “Religion of Peace”.

Now do you get it???

Who do you want them to shoot?

Anybody that might try to harm them or others.

Armed Forces...

(not really)

The Corporal was a reservist from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada out of Hamilton, so it was probably an extreme honour for him to be an honour guard at the Ceneotaph and Tomb of The Unknown. Even if he had a regular rifle, the attack was so unexpected that he may not have been able to react in time. Unfortunately, since there is no such thing as a 'carry permit' in Canada, it was up to the police to put down 'the dog'.

The two honourary guards in this photo in front of the Tomb of The Unknown appear to be RCAF, not Canadian Army, the east side of the East Block of Parliament Hill appears on the left of the photo.

Why even rifles? Couldn’t they stand guard with ceremonial flamethrowers?

Do not they have a clip in their pocket? They can load really fast—if needed.

Because The Guardians of the Tomb of the Unknown don’t need bullets to annihilate evil. One glance - a break from their perfect drill - is enough to fry the mind and soul of a Jihadist and send him to Hell forever.

Posse Comitatus Indeed.

You are the first I’ve seen to mention this in a thread about this.

I would love to see Military members armed when among the general populace if they have the necessary Training and Maturity to know their role. It is great that a 18-20 year old has combat medals from Afghanistan; but another thing entirely if you put him in a position where he may have to use a local LEO’s judgment.

If he shoots a civilian, will he be tried by UCMJ or local ordinance? Maybe in the Hague?

It is dangerous if any Federal Officers are identified immediately by locals as “the authorities”.

However, if military personnel are now being targeted by terrorists, something needs to be done, especially for the ones who interact with the public while in uniform.

Had not heard about the incident. True of Navy, Army, and Marine bases, in general. Sensitive areas are more protected.

They arent designed for simple display, they are battle ready weapons. The stocks are adjusted for show but otherwise its battle ready. As far as it goes for Tomb Guards anyways.

It was actually about 4 years ago. Doesn't seem that long ago:

Who do you want them to shoot?

Terrorists that shot at them. If a terrorist desired to shot "the guard" on duty they could pull it off. However, when about 4 other soldiers come out of their quarters below the tomb with M-14s they will kill him before he can then shoot the civilians watching the ceremony. Those men should be armed.

I’ve been to the one in Canada that was attacked today.
I’m not seeing any reason why the same couldn’t be done at ours.

That would be a good idea; however, I don't think it would have helped the Canadian soldier guarding their Tomb of the Unknown Soldier who was the victim of a cowardly sneak attack.
