The Shah's Son emerges

More in keeping with his father's views, Reza is generally sympathetic towards the United States - with whom relations were cordial before the fall of the Shah - and while he loves his country and intends for it to be a puppet state to no one, he does personally agree with many American political values. This is only natural given his democratic views, as the population of his country boasts a majority of Persian youth under the age of 30, with progressive views more in line with modern Western ideals than those espoused by the older, Arabic populations of the other Muslim theocracies in the Middle East. Reza's desire for a democratically accountable government, therefore, if implemented, would almost certainly result in an administration wishing to renew friendly ties with the US.

The CIA and DIA that put his father in power don’t exist anymore.

Iran is over 97% Muslim with most being Shias.

Based on the full article, I don't understand how an appeal of: let's be more like the Infidels, and modernize, and adopt Infidel ways, and collaborate with them would appeal to any Muslims, even Shias.

Can there really be that many Muslim heretics and apostates in Iran? -Tom

He should be put on the throne—once the Mullahs have been proven a disaster. Maybe Russia can put him in power with US support. President Mitt Romney would do it. Or even President Trump, or President Palin.

For the life of me, I can’t imagine why Reza is sympathetic to the United States views after the treatment his dad got during the Carter “fiasco years”.

For one thing, I’d have hunted Carter down for what he did to my dad if I were Reza.

Here was a man, our ally, and Carter not only helped get him kicked out of Iran, he refused to allow him to come to the U. S. for cancer treatment. Here was the Shah, very ill, transferring from country to country seeking treatment. It still angers me 35 years later.

I’ll never forget how the “Christian” Carter treated the Shah. As a Christian, Carter was and is a fraud.

If Reza were any real threat to the Mullahs, I suspect that Obama would move against him.

Under the Shah Iran was quite Westernized. The women could dress western and we had friendly relations. Iranians were not a threat back then. The Shah could be counted on to counter problems in the direct vicinity. Iraq was never a problem until the Shah was kicked out.

Carter is the root of everything that went wrong with Iran/Iraq and a lot of the terrorist activity that has taken place over the last 15-20 years.

I say this because Iraq and Iran have both played tippy-toe with terrorists. Iran runs arms through Iraq into Syria and Southern Lebanon. Iraq was developing WMDs and using it on it’s own citizens. Hussein was paying the families of suicide bombers in Israel.

Much of this was the direct result of destabilization, the Ayatollahs and the aftermath of Carter’s sheer brilliance.

“Politically, he supports a secular, democratic state, content to allow the people of Iran to determine their preference between a constitutional monarchy (more similar to but less absolute than was his father’s rule) and a representative Republic.”

Bolony he just wants to be a tyrant and want’s America to
put him in power as a puppet like his daddy.

Put this sniveling little tard in the octagon with Carter.
30 minute bout.

“he courageously and patriotically volunteered to serve as a combat pilot for Iran during that nation’s 1980 war with Iraq.”

Weren’t we backing Iraq?

The entire mess we are in can be traced back to Carter’s betrayal of the Shah of Iran.

You hit the nail in the head. The shites are even bigger scum than the sunnies. And we all know how evil the pure sunnies can be.

I think the younger generations, not the morons that make up the ranks of ISIS, etc, just want to be left alone to live their lives. I’m certainly no muslim sympathizer. I’d have no problem with the entire region getting sucked into a black hole in space. But after spending time in Afghanistan and Iraq, they live in the effin’ stone ages.

Pump some MTV, Friends episodes and the rest of that tv crap into those regions and muslim extremism will become a thing of the past.

“Carter’s betrayal of the Shah of Iran.”

Sorry, but you can only prop up a puppet for so long. The country is 99% islamic with 98% shites, so eventually the shah would have been sawed anyway.

Well at best he destabilized the region. The Iraq/Iran war was estimated to have cost a massive amount of military and civilian lives. Estimates range in excess of a million people dead, because the Shah was removed and Hussein thought he could take out the Ayatollahs.

Carter was directly responsible for that destabilization.

What a mess. We’re still dealing with it 35 years later

I would tend to disagree. Islam is in dire need of a reformation. Look at

especially #4. Just like the FLDS, Power-Polygamy is deadly.

Iran/Persia was a Secular Monarchy for 3,000 years. Iran has only been an Islamic Republic since 1979. What are you talking about?

So what though? Iran/Persia was also a secular Monarchy for over 3,000 years and even post-Islam. It’s only been an Islamic Republic since 1979. They were that percentage Shia Muslim then too and no one was forcing anything down their throats when they chose a secular Monarchy post-Islam and pre- Islamic Republic (even if we do argue that we installed the Shah that’s only 40 years out of thousands of years of Secular Monarchy). What does Iran being 97% shia have to do with anything given the aforementioned?

Iran/Persia was a secular Monarchy for thousands of years just because we assisted the Shah of Iran with his Monarchy doesn’t mean that we forced them to accept a form of government they’ve had for 3,000 years and a Secular one to boot. Isn’t that a tad bit arrogant too when a leader would be close to the United States to bash him? He’s probably more pro-US than most US liberals.
