Union enrollment plummets for Wisconsin teachers under tough law

Teachers in Wisconsin's public schools have learned a major lesson from the state's landmark 2011 law neutering public sector unions, with more than a third dropping out of their labor organization.

Given no choice but to join and pay dues to the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) for decades, teachers have for the last three years been able to opt out. And that is what tens of thousands have done as a result of Gov. Scott Walker’s Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill, also known as Act 10.

“Given the evidence, it shows that the union's hold is softening," Patrick Wright, vice president of legal affairs for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, told FoxNews.com

Kind of a great big “reset” button for the union grip on things.

We can only hope that the WI teachers newly freed from the shackles of the union will support Gov. Walker with their votes.

This race against the ham sandwich the Dems put up as a candidate is wayyyyy too close for my comfort.

Proof that when the corrupt government doesn’t collude with unions to extort dues from workers they will choose freedom.

I think what they meant was:

“Union enrollment plummets for Wisconsin teachers when given the choice”

Exactly! Apparently people have better use for what would’ve been union dues.

I BELIEVE IT IS THE CASE THAT when union membership was compulsory by law for Wisconsin school teachers and classified state employees, and possibly others, their dues were paid annually by state clerical workers using state appropriated funds.
Since union membership became optional, those choosing to maintain same had to pay the dues out of their own personal monies.
I haven’t lived in Wisconsin (my native land) since 1987. Perhaps a current resident could state the above “facts” more correctly.

That is the best way to neuter every union. Take away their PAYROLL deduction privileges. Once every individual realizes that they have to write monthly check in order to belong to the union, their membership will drop dramatically
