Is Global Warming a Theme of 'Interstellar' Movie?
NewsBusters ^ | October 26, 2014 | P.J. Gladnick

Imagine if astronaut Dave of "2001: A Space Odyssey" returned to Earth as a star child in order to use his superior brain power to build better solar panels. It seems mighty narrow and would have trivialized Stanley Kubrick's classic film. Well, something like that might be happening with another movie, "Interstellar," opening on November 7. A crew is sent via a wormhole to find another planet far across the universe. Why? In order to discover a place to grow corn because the crops on earth have been ruined due to climate change aka global warming.

I sure hope this isn't true but, unfortunately, early reports are that global warming is indeed a theme of "Interstellar." Somehow a crew can't be sent across the universe to another planet just to discover what is out there. No. A global warming agenda is included which can only trivialize the movie. Here are several reports about that global warming theme including this ABC News story:

This would be a better Star Trek plot, since Kirk is from Iowa. It would be like Star Trek IV again, except instead of humpback whales, it would be saving the corn.

That is very disappointing, I was looking forward to the film before now.

They are remaking 2001, it is possible for him to return to Earth to make solar panels after all.

I heard they were making a show called “Gotham”... and then I saw... yep, they had to push lesbians into it.

The seas outside of the Norwegian coast are warmer now than in a long while.

This has lead to a huge increase in fishing stocks.

For a country like Norway, global warming would most certainly be a good thing isolated.

For the rest of the world? I think a warmer world, with more moisture will be better for most. Sea levels will rise though, causing trouble for coastal communities.

Glad I am not the only one to take a pro life message away from that otherwise awful episode.

Looking forward to the two episode finale starting next week :)

Obama and the dims lie about everything.....including "global warming"

This is true. But the guy farming in Greenland is the one who reported the degree and a half increase, which made it suddenly profitable to farm. Supposedly.

I remember they were doing archaeology on a Viking farm that had been abandoned when the climate had turned cold, so it was interesting to see farming return to Greenland.

In any case I'm of the opinion that if the planet did warm up a degree or two its a good thing that would be a general boon to humanity.

I certainly wouldn't see the need to correct it if we could.

And I certainly wouldn't favor turning the world into a giant fascist economy to correct something that is natural, and a good thing at that.

If some writer came to me as a movie producer and wanted me to spend 10’s of millions on this nutty story I would have thrown him out.

There must be some fantastic hollywood accounting going on to justify this huge expense.

BTW how much energy was wasted on the making of the movie? How many resources used up by the making of the sets, lighting, energy for the computers for the special effects plus the usual jetting around the world to promote the movie.

FTA: tremendous destruction climate change has wrought on agriculture.

I know that at least one character in the show - Renee Montoya, the detective - has been a lesbian for years in the comics.

At least they’re being accurate to the source material. /s

Her lover was Commissioner Gordon’s wife.

“accurate” my foot. The comics are about Batman, who doesn’t exist yet on the show because he is a kid.

Oh and Catwoman witnesses the death of his parents on this show. Also never happened in the comics.

I won’t be watching this show either.

So they ripped off "Farmer in the Sky"

I was doubtful about this movie as the theme "there is nothing in our solar system that can save us" seemed rather far fetched unless our sun was dying or going nova.

We have plenty of raw material floating around out there and it would be much easier, safer and surer to access than going through a wormhole.

Great movie. No political message. Nothing about global warming from what I saw. I highly recommend this movie.

The area for growing corn is expanding every year, both of the Dakotas and Canada are seeing more and more acreage of corn, and increased yields year after year.

The reason isn’t a two word answer, those two words being ‘Global Warming’.

No, the answer is one word; Monsanto.
