Nurse describes Ebola quarantine ordeal: 'I was in shock. Now I'm angry'
CNN ^ | October 26, 2014 | Elizabeth Cohen, Leslie Holland

Posted on 10/26/2014 6:33:33 PM PDT by dennisw

In a separate interview with CNN Senior Medical Correspondent Elizabeth Cohen, Hickox elaborated on what she thought of Christie's assessment of her medical condition.

"I'm sorry, but that's just a completely unacceptable statement in my opinion. For (Christie) -- a politician who's trusted and respected -- to make a statement that's categorically not true is just unacceptable and appalling."

"She's fine. She's not sick."

Hickox told Crowley that mandatory quarantine is "not a sound public health decision" and that public health officials -- not politicians -- should be making the policies related to Ebola and public safety.

"For the first 12 hours, I was in shock. Now I'm angry," she added.

On Sunday, Hickox's lawyers met with Hickox at the hospital, saying they had a 75-minute conversation through a piece of clear plastic while she sat inside the tent.

"She's fine. She's not sick," lawyer Steven Hyman said in a sidewalk news conference aired on CNN affiliate WABC. "She went and did a magnanimous thing and deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, not put in isolation because some political leaders decided it looks good to do

Kaci Hickox, a nurse placed under mandatory quarantine in New Jersey, went on CNN on Sunday and criticized the "knee-jerk reaction by politicians" to Ebola, saying "to quarantine someone without a better plan in place, without more forethought, is just preposterous."

Hickox, an epidemiologist who was working to help treat Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, has tested negative twice for Ebola and does not have symptoms, she said. She is quarantined for 21 days at University Hospital in Newark.

"This is an extreme that is really unacceptable, and I feel like my basic human rights have been violated," Hickox told CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union."

Is this odious nurse on the Federal-CDC payroll?

She should be quarantined for a few months just for being an obnoxious little resume builder. She is rabid about her rights after treating people in Ebola central-—Africa

So now she is an epidemiologist?

She is a g.d. nurse. There are no course requirements for epidemiology in nursing school. Not in the programs for a masters in nursing. How did she become an epidemiologist?

I am of two minds here. The politics of medicine was the tip of the wedge for political control over most of our lives. It started with mandatory vaccinations, about 1900.

It has expanded enormously.

How do we limit the power of the government to decide what is best for us from the rest of our lives? For example, to decide whether we can have access to weapons or not?

There should be a clear way to draw the line. Long ago, it used to be if someone crossed a state line. This case clearly meets that criteria.

I would love to know if she has a trust fund her parasite “lawyuh” is seeking out?

she ought to lose her nursing license for being stupid enough to not want to be quarantined. The nurse who treated Duncan felt fine too and she got on a plan with ebola.

STFU you stupid woman. If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the f##king kitchen. If you must be around the dangerous ebola patients, you do not deserve to spread it around. Plus, your judgment is not to be trusted.

I am concerned about the number of “absolute truths” the CDC is spitting out.

Kaci, I’m angry with you and your attitude. I’m angry with your healthcare cohorts who can’t self quarantine themselves and fly across the country potentially infecting the entire nation, take cruises ruining 4000 shipmates’ vacations, go out bowling and slip out of quarantine for soup runs because they are so much better than us peons.

Exactly a damn nurse. In the field where salaries start around $200k, the nurses earn $35k. This alone tells their value to the healthcare industry. Like glorified waitresses.

Hey Nana

This is getting crazy. She is a nurse. She is not an epidemiologist. She works for the CDC which means she probably wasn’t doing patient care. She was probably living at the local hotel telling others what to do. What a bitch.
