Pressure Grows for Marines to Lower Standards for Women

When it was reported at the beginning of October that three female Marine officers had passed the Combat Endurance Test (CET), the initial entry screener for the Corp’s challenging Infantry Officer Course, the news was widely reported. You can read about it here, here, here, here, here, and here.

The story was indeed news. Up to that point, of the 24 women who had attempted the CET, only one had passed, and she had reportedly later been dropped from the overall course due to an injury. Struggling to get enough female officers into the course to produce a statistically significant result for its study of introducing women into combat roles, the Corps had directed that more seasoned female officers could attempt the course. Now three had made it over the first hurdle.

When all three were cut from the course last week for not meeting physical standards in subsequent training events, the news was not as widely reported. I have only found it here in the Christian Science Monitor, which, to its credit, has closely covered this issue from start:

During the first march in which the three female – as well as three male – officers were issued a warning, the Marines were given about two hours and 40 minutes to move 7-1/2 miles. At the time, they were assigned to carry roughly 104 pounds each.

I can do this running backwards and eat a ham sandwich all at the same time.

“But what do you bet many of the people condemning the punching are also demanding women be allowed in combat”

I made the exact same point when the Ray Rice story came out. All the libs whining over him punching her and not “being as strong as a man”, and how awful he was for hitting “a woman”. These exact same idiots want that same woman in combat, where she will experience far much worse than getting punched in the face. To me it’s just more proof that liberalism is a mental disorder. And like I said before Congress never voted to allow woman in combat. They renigged on their responsibility and let the worthless Obama make the call, which was insane. Same way with lifting DADT. The generals that went along with him with cowards for not telling the truth. Every one of them knew the dire consequences and knew it would never work.

Have a family member that was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. Never married, Navy through and through. Everyone figured he’d stay 30 and for as many years beyond that that he could get approved.

Quit after 24.

He told me that once ships were forced to accept women, everything went to hell in a hand basket. Before women, two guys would have a beef. Some ‘remote’ place on the ship would be found and they’d have at it. With the bad blood out of their systems, they’d be arm in arm having a beer later that evening. Once women showed up, disagreements became feuds that went on and on. And were truly violent.

And in many ways it was even worse for women. Betty Jo Bean Sprout, good Christian girl from Iowa would show up. Wouldn’t take but just a few weeks before she’d realize that with the ratio of men to women, she was sitting on a check book with an unlimited balance. He said to me, “what the hell are these parents going to think - they send me a sweet honest, Christian girl, and a year later I send them back a manipulating little slut.”

The last straw came during the first Gulf War. He was on a smaller ship, some kind of fast transport. They sat in the Gulf for nearly six months. Apparently they had a cargo that the military wanted close by, but could not set foot on land unless really bad stuff happened. There was something like 30 women on board, and when they got back to dock, 11 were pregnant. The Captain called him in and said, “Chief this is going on your record because you should have found a way to keep this under control!” What, metal chastity belts?

That was over 20 years ago. I can hardly imagine what it is like today.
