ROMNEY STILL POPULAR WITH REPUBLICANS, BUT NOT THE WIDER PUBLIC
YouGov ^ | October 29, 2014 | Kathy Frankovic

Posted on 10/30/2014 6:50:33 AM PDT by C19fan

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee, remains among the most popular of possible 2016 Republican candidates – but just among Republicans. In the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, 75% of Republicans hold a favorable opinion of Romney, far more than say that about nearly all other GOP possibilities.

.........................................................

Romney’s popularity with Republicans does not extend to the rest of the population, however. Overall, he is seen unfavorably. And when it comes to whether or not Romney should try again for the Presidency in 2016, Republicans are divided at the moment. The country overall would rather he stay out of the next presidential contest.

Romney could not attack 0bama at his weakest point: romneyobamacare.

It's certainly true that Romney didn't attack Obama on Obamacare, but he could have:

Obama's claim that Obamacare is modeled on Romneycare is technically true, but Romney did not sign Romneycare, as it now exists, into law. Massachusetts has a line item veto. Romney vetoed large portions of the bill (including the employer mandate). The legislature in Mass. was a veto-proof lib majority, and every one of Romney's line item vetos was overridden.

Romney (or his handlers) failed to ever mention any of this, and it's not as though the press was going to do it for him. The whole thing was so ridiculous that I almost agree with the people on here that claim the RINO's are secretly rooting for the Dems.

Romney is a slick, pre-packaged, pretty boy with a Barbie Doll family, a political consultant’s wet dream. So how come he lost? At some deeper level he is perceived as a power brokers’ shill, a business as usual Wall St. step n’ fetchit. Republicans need to demand a candidate with an I.Q. above that of a cabbage, something in the 150 range. Ben Carson comes to mind. A black conservative president would be poetic justice.

Palin has been MIA in both races, which are critically important to taking control of the Senate away from Harry Reid.

She's so lazy and useless. Besides, it wouldn't make any difference, what with all her many many abject and highly publicised failures and everything.

People in N.C. and Georgia probably don't know who she is anymore and wouldn't like her anyway even if they could remember her.

Are we buddies now, riverdawg?

The real question is did he try to veto the INDIVIDUAL Mandate.

And the financial punishments.

And the subsidization of the citizens who reportedly could not afford Medical Insurance.

Those components are what made Mitt Romneys RomneyCare Socialized Medicine and totally and completely unacceptable to conservatives.

I agree with you about Sarah Palin Here she is in Louisiana, Dr. Cassidy has a chance to take Mary Landrieu out in the first run without a run off. Palin comes down here twice to camnpagin for Mannes a so called republican. All this is doing is taking votes from Cassidy. We desperately need Mary out of the senate. She is a huge supporter of Harry Reid. I don’t get Palin. and for all of the palin followers out there I snet money to her run as VP. SHe is “Threating” to run for president in 2016 I say let her do it. She will never win. But she needs to stay out of LOuisiana and ngo home and take care of her husband and chidren. It looks as though they need her mor3e than we do

RE Romney, Dawg writes: Other than the fact that he would have been better than Obama I have no more love for him now than I had two years ago, and Sons opines: ... he would've been light years better than the muslim bastard, but so would my dog.

People stupid enough to vote for Obama (a minority of Americans -- imaginary Americans in the form of ginned, fraudulent, harvested, and illegal votes put him over the top) have the excuse of being STUPID enough to want to be slaves to amoral government tyranny -- they don't even know they're slaves.

But when thinking, intelligent, patriotic, smart Americans vote FOR all the same crap as the price of voting "against" Obama, and that guy they voted FOR gets in office and starts implementing all the amoral slavery they abhor, then THAT IS WORSE.

Romney would have been worse than Obama, and he would be worse than Hillary or any other of the Dem Nightmares on the horizon. He would be worse because we'd have PUT HIM THERE with our eyes wide open.

Voting for Romney was making a deal with the devil, and a deal with the devil is ALWAYS a losing proposition.

I'm not trying to defend Romney. My point was that Romney could have defended himself against Obama's charge that Romneycare is Obamacare and didn't.

I meant the post as a critique of Romney's poor campaign performance, not as a defense of Romney- or Obamacare.

RomneyCARE is ObamaCARE.

Socialized medicine.

They are the same. Which is why the GOP supports both.

“Are we buddies now, riverdawg?”

I'm not looking for buddies on FR, just the truth. But some people can't handle the truth.

You're correct; this isn't the best place to find a bud. Too much agressiveness; too much defensiveness. But, the Truth?

Yes, you can even find the Truth making appearances here on FR. The real accomplishment is to be able to recognize the Truth amongst the...the other things.

Thank you for responding to my post.

You're confusing your subjective opinion for the truth.

My opinions are just that, opinions. But I do think there is objective truth to be found, even on FR. I am not a relativist, for whom everyone has his own “truth” which is equally valid. For that view, I can visit the comp lit department at the local university.
