Ten senior members of North Korea’s ruling party have been executed after they were caught watching soap operas. The officials were killed on the order of dictator Kim Jong-Un, taking the number of senior government and military members executed this year to 50, South Korea's intelligence agency have said. The ten were ‘executed by firing squad for watching South Korean soap operas, bribery or womanising’.

This is the kind of crap our nation will eventually have, if we let the communist left keep stealing elections.

What they’re producing in S. Korea blows away anything Hollywood has been doing for 20 years, at least.

I cancelled my TV package a year ago and aside from watching Mad Men and Hell on Wheels on the ‘net, my TV viewing has consisted of nothing but K-Dramas. I’ve gotten so accustomed to sub-titles that without them, something seems missing. And, my long term retention of what I’ve watched is much higher than it ever was with audio only.

Over there, you won’t see the glorification of sex and drugs, cheating to get ahead, or any of the other subversive behaviors extolled by the commies in Hollywood. The message you’ll see there is that good wins over evil, hard work is a virtue, family values are supreme and love of your country is a good thing. Kind of like how America used to be.

I didn’t know there were so many of us here.

I was so distraught after 0b0la was reelected 2 years ago, I had to find a diversion to escape from what America’s doing to itself, and K-Drama’s is/are where I found it.

My sanity was saved because it’s impossible to let your mind wander off on how we’re going to Hell on a racecar(d) if you have to read the subtitles to follow the story line.

I can understand that what they (Koreans) are doing might not be to everyone’s taste, but I don’t see how anyone can intelligently dismiss it as being inferior.

And, for those readers not addressed in this post, they are not “soap operas” as we understand them here. They are series that have a definite conclusion, and normally run between 16 and 50 episodes.

I just finished watching a wonderful series available on youtube called Invincible Youth. It’s a very entertaining look at how Korean entertainment blends with Korean society, and how they keep their young entertainers from turning into Justin Bieber’s as they gain success in life. There are 2 seasons available, but I would suggest that season 1 is better, for those interested in taking a look.

I watch them all the time too, and some of them drive me crazy how the character refuse to talk to each other to keep stretching it out.

Currently “My Dear Cat” at the KBS World youtube channel makes me want to kick the laptop off the porch. Before that it was “Well-Grown Daughter” and before that....

That wasn’t a bad show.

But you should watch some newer ones.

“You are all surrounded” might meet your tastes.

Yep, for decades they lied and told their people that N. Korea was the richest nation, even as the people starved. They can’t pretend any more of course. Now the rest of the world being better off because they stole it or exploited others or whatever

Korean soaps are more like telenovelas, they have endings. The daily dramas as they are usually called, last about 120 episodes.

Could you imagine the stuff they could make if they had the budget of an American show?

I think they’re going to soon be swimming in money the way Hallyu is taking off.

As per your observation about not talking to each other to clear up misunderstandings, that and many other maddening things they do in dramas was discussed in a satirical manner in dramafever.com/news kimchi genius cartoon. I post there as nch_biz.

BTW, you were right about Invincible Youth, I loved it.

I would impose a similar penalty in this country for fans of Jerry Springer and Maury Povich.....Oh, PLEASE. I seriously think about purging my girlfriend. With Judge Judy, Judge Maybelline (?) Judge the other guy? She don’t got enough drama in her miserable existence? I do. But she won’t watch the Sopranos because “He’s too bad.”

I would bet he isn't doing the purging.

He is a figurehead only.

This all started when they executed the uncle....and these "purgees" are what remains of his faction.

We may never know who the real boss is....but we did get a hint when those generals showed up at the closing of the Asian games.

I really do prefer K-dramas to TV on our cable TV. They are funny, sweet, intense at times, historical, and not full of sex, sex, sex. I started watching them during my fourth pregnancy and have been addicted ever since. My ideal time away from kids would be a marathon through a bunch of the shows I just can’t keep up with.

We’re in limited bandwidth since we moved to the country and it’s killing me! My husband is looking into the international satellite with a Korean package for our home. He’s very sweet to me when I’m pregnant. LOL! Drama Fever has an app for your smart phones in case you didn’t already know!

KBS World seems to be all subtitled from what I can tell, I am not sure if MBC America and SBS International (or whatever) are always subtitled.
