IRS Docs, Interviews Suggest More Burke Resume Problems (WI)

According to her resume, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke spent 1994 and some of 1995 working as the “Administrator” of the non-profit trade group Bicycle Industry Organization (BIO). However, an IRS document shows an address for the trade group that also happens to be a home formerly owned by Burke – a home that was purchased at least seven months after Burke claims she left BIO.

According to Burke’s resume, Burke left BIO in 1995 and that same year returned to Trek Bicycle – her family’s business – as Director of Forecasting and Strategic Planning. According to a Dan Bice story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, while providing “few specific dates for her work” with BIO, she became part-time at BIO sometime in 1994 and eventually left, spending February and March of 1995 teaching snowboarding in Colorado. Bice notes, “[S]he eventually settled on getting back on the management track by returning to Trek as special projects manager in September 1995.”

But while the Bice article says Burke left BIO sometime before February of 1995, IRS documents show 916 Castle Place in Madison, Wisconsin as the last known mailing address for BIO. Oddly, Dane County records show Burke didn’t purchase the Castle Place home until September 28, 1995 – at least seven month after when she claims she left the trade group. This clearly raises questions as to why Burke would have IRS documents mailed to her home when she claims she no longer worked for the trade group.

BIO “crumbled” according to one bicycle industry magazine sometime in early 1996 when the trade group ran out of money. An IRS document shows the group’s nonprofit status being revoked in 2010 and Delaware corporate records – where the trade organization was registered – listed 1994 as the last time an annual report was filed.

A resume prepared by Burke, and subsequently reviewed by the Doyle administration before Burke was appointed commerce secretary, says Burke was “Director of Forecasting & Strategic Planning” from “1995 to May 2004.” But what Burke claims in her resume isn’t actually true.

Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, a major industry magazine, interviewed Burke in 2004 where she noted, “For the past five years, I have been a one-person department.” The magazine further notes in the 2004 article, “[Burke] became director of forecasting and planning five years ago” and noted that Burke served as a special projects manager when she returned to Trek.

Bice never pointed out the discrepancy between Burke’s resume, furnished to the state, and what she told the Journal Sentinel and, in more detail, Bicycle Retailer and Industry News.

So despite the resume she sent to the Doyle administration for consideration to become commerce secretary stating she was Director of Forecasting and Strategic planning for nearly a decade, Burke herself admits she only held the position for five years.

This is not the first time Burke’s resume has been in dispute. Back in March Bice ran another piece titled “Mary Burke campaign offers more changes to her resume.” The story noted the Wisconsin Republican Party had even launched a website to highlight Burke’s resume issues. Just this week news also broke that several former Trek executives, including the company’s past President, said Burke was forced out of Trek in 1993 despite her claims that she left on her own.

The media sat on this for months. All of it. Their hatred of Governor Walker is that big.

This woman isn't fit to run a town water board meeting, much less being Governor of a fricking state. Now that the independent news sources and blogs are breaking this, they have no choice but to run with it and do damage control ("Conservative ex-execs"...Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel slime piece).

What indicates any significant experience or managerial ability?

She was fired after almost destroying her father’s company operations in Germany. It was probably a lie of the millions in increasing sales. She couldn’t manage people.

She spent three years snowboarding.

She spent 2 years with Doyle Administration. Was she fired there? Why did she leave that political job?

She has not worked for last seven years - unemployed.

What are her qualifications? Not much.

Why would anyone expect her to do a good job as Governor?

The Dems could run Joe Stalin or Mao in this state and still get 40% of the vote.

she has a longer resume than Obola. may she learned something from all those failures and she’s a democrat so the resume looks pretty good for the dumbo dems.

“The Dems could run Joe Stalin or Mao in this state and still get 40% of the vote”.

So true. No democrat can give one reason to vote FOR Mary Burke. All they can say is how much they hate Scott Walker.

“Burke served as a special projects manager when she returned to Trek’

ROTFLOL!

“special projects” manager is ALWAYS a do-nothing position constructed to shuffle deadwood that can’t be fired for one reason or another out of the way of doing further harm in the management reporting mainline.

The Al Franken effect, just no figuring it out with those frozen winter States.

Burke can barely string a coherent sentence together, nor has she ever had an original thought beyond which tennis racket to use at the country club.

Millionaire Muffy is a liar, a cheat, and and airhead, and apparently, those are her good qualities.

You are wrong, wrong wrong.

Uncle Joe Stalin or Mao would get at least 45 percent of the vote in Wisconsin, not 40 percent. :)

exactly.

but to be honest, it’s like this around much of the country.

there are such diehards that will always vote for the (D). No matter who’s actually running.

And you know it is funny that when us conservatives here say we won’t do that, that we won’t vote for the latest rino or whoever they’re tossing up to us, how we get ripped on here by others for not backing the party, for letting the dems win, for not coming together and rocking the boat.
