Ebola Predictions: Scientists See Cases In Every Major U.S. City Possible By Year’s End
The Inquisitr News / The Associated Press ^ | November 1, 2014

Ebola predictions are starting to pick up steam, with those in the scientific community estimating that there could be anywhere from one to 130 additional cases in the United States by year’s end.

In a report from the Associated Press, scientists emphasized that they did not think the Ebola outbreak would hurt the U.S. as badly as it has other countries, but they did not rule out the possibility that there would be more diagnoses within America’s borders.

“I don’t think there’s going to be a huge outbreak here, no,” said Dr. David Relman....

Slim?
It is not known what natural reservoirs will exist
in N America. Dogs? Bats? It is not known, but
Obola-the-Islamicterrorist and his treasonous
EXEMPT Clowns in Congress are determined to find out.

As long as you keep letting people in from highly infected areas you are going to see cases pop up. Its criminal and insane that the President of the USA has not stopped people from these areas travelling to our country.

ITS ON PURPOSE!

Interesting comment.

How did the hypothetical solitary Ebola corpse in the alley acquire EVD? Drop from the sky?

Although I am a strong proponent of stopping issuance of visas to residents of the Ebola stricken West African Nations and of mandatory quarantine of returning Ebola medical workers ... I find this article to be skimpy and without much merit... There is not meat in this article just some vague references ... It is this kind of ‘NEWS’ that defeats a rallying of support to shut down obama’s resistance to stop anyone from the Ebola Hot Spot countries from coming to America — This article is without substance - just a headline.

Intetresting that these media Dr’s who knew nothing of EVD in Jan 2014 have become prognosticating experts. Gotta get their Cliff Notes.

Wonder if any of them have at hand the latest census demographics of the now sizeable clusters of third world nomads in all of our major cities. How many of the are aware of all the botanicas found in hispanic areas? Those are the outward manifestations of the hidden animism still present in those culures, no different at their core than in West Africa. Why would any one expect a different reaction here?

I doubt it. I would wager they avoid those neighborhoods.

the current strain of Ebola virus is 70% lethal

In specialized US treatment centers, the mortality is zero (0/8).

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Mr. Jeeves ~ But 130 cases is more than enough to wipe out the economy.

roadcat ~ You may be on to something. The fear factor. So far, a few nurses became ill. What happens when dozens, then hundreds of nurses and doctors become ill? Hospital costs are very high as it is, and would skyrocket under these conditions. The health industry would fall into chaos, and take the economy down with it.

What happens to foot traffic at the local mall when someone crashes and bleeds out at the Food Court?

Or even if there's a rumor someone crashed and bled out at the Food Court?

Let me tell you a little story.

A father who works at a local university, and lives near a place called “little Mexico” brought his adult daughter back from Liberia. She refuses to go under voluntary quarantine, and has been seen shopping at local stores.

Many of the residents of Little Mexico are not happy, and there have been quite a few vacancies at the local packing plant. In short, they are going home because the North is nuts.

From the linked AP report...

...Smith said the high end may be a bit of an overestimate as it does not include the automatic quarantining measures that some areas in the U.S. are implementing.

Those quarantines “could both reduce the number of contacts for imported cases, as well as increase the travel burden on — and perhaps reduce the number of — U.S. volunteers planning to support the effort in West Africa,” he said.

Automatic quarantining measures. Hmmmm...how about that?

According to the article in last week's New England Journal of Medicine, the five most common symptoms of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Sierra Leone were: 1. fever, 2. headache, 3. weakness, 4. dizziness, and 5. diarrhea.

I've been concerned that this is going to make for a very interesting flu season in emergency rooms this winter.

Probably rats and mice: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/spb/mnpages/dispages/vhf.htm with possible mosquito and tick vectors. However one must consider the fact that we used to have much bigger reservoirs of "tropical" diseases like malaria and yellow fever from Florida to the Arctic. They are all gone thanks to eradication policies, yet malaria is brought back into North America 100's of time every year. Each time it is eradicated again, usually just by isolating and treating the victims but sometimes with mosquito spraying and sometimes eliminating the hosts.

It is extremely unlikely that Ebola will become endemic in North America when we have eliminated and keep eliminating many other formerly endemic diseases.

The solitary corpse flew in from Liberia, stayed at some hotel, got sick, wandered into the alley and died.

Not surprising. 150 a day are coming and a lot of them are rock bottom stupid. Duncan may have knowingly lied on the form about contact with Ebola victims, but I believe he was just plain stupid.

Just a sidenote,...I was speaking to an corporate principal recently who reported some of his employees, who never took sick leave, but had run out of annual leave, started to claim they thought they had ebola and they needed to take sick leave for 21 days, just to be sure they weren’t infectious,......a different type of contagion.

Given the weird nature of this disease that might be overly optimistic an estimation. Sometimes it kills, sometimes it only sickens and could be mistaken for a flu.

Yes, and just wait for the chaos when the cold & flu season kicks into high gear and hospitals are attempting to sort out the potential Ebola cases. All because Dumbo wouldn't take the obvious steps to close air connections with west African nations.
