Why You Shouldn’t Vote
Townhall.com ^ | November 2, 2014 | Derek Hunter

Look, I’m not going to lie to you – your vote matters. But let’s be honest, there are Republicans on the ballot who aren’t very conservative. Most of them don’t agree with me on everything and surely don’t agree with you on everything. In fact, many of them are downright awful.

So if you find yourself in a state where the Senate race is close, and you don’t like some of the things the Republican candidate stands for – just stay home.

A message must be sent: We conservatives could not beat all the people we don’t like in the primary, so we’re not going to vote.

That’ll show the establishment. That’ll show the country. That’ll show the future.

So if you’re a conservative in Colorado, don’t vote for Cory Gardner. If you’re in Iowa, show that Joni Ernst what’s what! Live in North Carolina? Who does that Thom Tillis think he is, anyway? From Kentucky? Let Mitch McConnell know who’s boss! Georgia? David Perdue? I don’t think so. Kansas? Teach that Pat Roberts a lesson! Live in New Hampshire? Scott Brown – yuck, am I right?

Look, if conservatives don’t draw a line in 2014, when will it be drawn?

Just because tea party and conservative candidates couldn’t win a majority in primary challenges doesn’t mean they aren’t the majority. It was dirty tricks and the establishment that screwed you … everyone knows that. So show the establishment you won’t take not getting your way anymore.

Honestly, what’s the point of voting for a candidate who agrees with you a majority of the time? Don’t vote. Let someone who you agree with on nothing win, and then next time – in six years – that person comes up for reelection, maybe the Republican Party will come to its senses and let you get your way.

I mean, what would be better for the country – Harry Reid or Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader? Obviously Harry Reid. Mitch McConnell is a squish on a few things, wouldn’t run blocker for President Obama and wouldn’t be a rubberstamp for any Supreme Court nominee, or any court, for that matter. Where’s the lesson for the establishment for that?

Sure, I know, the country will have a court system packed with activist judges, and the president will use his magic pen and phone to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and who knows what else, but principle will be maintained. That’s a moral victory, right? Those count for something in politics, right? They have to count for something…

Of course, they count for nothing. Yet that nothing is what many millions of Americans, including many of you (judging by comments on other columns in which I’ve dealt with this topic), are prepared to vote for by stubbornly refusing to vote for a candidate who isn’t “your candidate.”

Sorry, your candidate lost, and your remaining choice sucks. I get it, I’ve been there. But so what! Get over yourself. Everyone who voted in the primary and your choice lost. It happens. It’s part of life. So you’re just going to quit?

If you want to right the ship of state, how did you think that would work? Your one chosen candidate would somehow undo half a century of constitutional disregard in 20 minutes? Of course not. It’s all going to be incremental. Nothing this big turns on a dime. But before it can get any better it has to stop getting worse.

Harry Reid remaining majority leader in the Senate means things continue to get worse. Barack Obama packing the courts with like-minded judges means things will continue to get worse.

There will come a point of no return, where we will tip over that ledge from which there is no coming back. If you stay home, or you cast a “message” vote for some third party nothing-burger, that’s what you’re voting for. That’s what you’ll get, and that’s the country you’ll be leaving for your kids to inherit.

A vote for anyone other than the Republican, no matter who that Republican is, is a vote for Harry Reid and Barack Obama.

You want to purge the party? Do it from a position of strength. I’m all for a battle royale for the soul of the Republican Party, but not until AFTER the Democrats are vanquished.

Tuesday, go vote. Vote for the Republicans. Send a message that you are not a moody, unreliable person who will take your ball and go home if you don’t get your way, but that you accept your party’s primary decision. It’s a decision you don’t like. It’s a decision you’ll fight in the next primary if necessary. But for the good of the country, you’ll live in “now” and work for the future.

Anything else is a vote for progressives, and anyone who does that is no conservative.

It ain’t a strategy, at least if it is, it sucks. The world seems to be going up and flames whether I hold my nose or not. I just can’t lie to myself and pretend that continuing to enable abusive behavior is going to change it. The house always wins.

What freeper Kozak is saying is staying home or voting third party is a guaranteed vote for the rats, and that is factual and should be a warning to everyone.

I am doing neither of those two, but your claim that your statement is factual is laughable and math challenged.

So, I challenge you to provide the factual basis for it. Do the math and prove it. Either that or admit that you can not do that.

How many “libertarian” candidates, who often provide Dems the opportunity to win with a Clintonian plurality, are secretly funded by progressive allies?

I don’t think it will make any difference anyhow after soetoro uses his phone and his pen to give amnesty to 50 million illegals. Even if not a single one votes illegally their anchor babies will vote legally in 18 yrs.

Maintaining conservative values is self righteous now?

Only just before all elections and forever afterward when the GOPe RINO RATS lose any election.

H can’t and won. he has a GOP script and pulls the thing out on many of these threads. He simply bulls ahead lying about how elections work to cloud the issue and cause dispute to prevent conservative ideas from coalescing and people from voting on principle.

Check his post history. He has been corrected on this many times.

As I see it, the country has already pretty much gone to hell.

It’s one of the reasons why elections and politics seem so laughably moot nowadays. Maybe I could get more interested or invested in such things if I ever saw the GOP actually start fighting things like open-borders, fag-marriage, Obamacare and such... as opposed to surrendering and adopting the Dem positions.

I’ve asked these guys back in 2008 and 12 what their plan was to protect us from the crap a Democrat win would dump on our heads. They had no answers. Apparently the stay at home people plan to just sit behind their computer and shake their fists like they do now.

They had a chance to dump RINOs in the primaries and did and fantastically shoddy job at it. They were grew at bragging about how they were going to win though, and collecting lots of money.

I vote for whomever isn’t the Democrat, period.

Next election, the right needs to get their s#it together and get serious, because we aren’t owed a win just because we are high on ourselves.

You are so wrong. It does not help to vote in a few republicans who are conservative if they never gain power. Much better to vote in as many conservative republicans as possible, with a few others to win control of the senate. How else does Cruz become a committee chair.

We did a pretty good job of purging the party of bad apples. Not a great job. But we did ok. We need to gain power. And then gain control of the republican party. While conservatives may not be in the majority of either house. We are in the majority of the republicans. And if they are in control then we can change things.

Excellent Point! No grain of salt necessary to understand. As stated by another FReeper earlier. rino season is during the primary. Final elections have consequences. Many do not understand or are as your post stated. Thank You for stating the obvious!

I disagree. I think it is “easier” to simply to grouse. It is easier to ignore those with whom you disagree.

It is much harder to engage - to debate - to try to change minds.

Complainers seldom change minds - they tend to be ignored...

I totally agree. We are slowly skidding to the point of no return. I held my nose and voted for Romney because I knew of the damage one more term with Obama would do to America.

I think of a brave Marine, Sgt Tammoreesi who spent over 200 days in a Mexican jail, tortured beyond belief. Romney would have made a phone call to get him home immediately.

The Bundy Ranch stand-off, IRS and Lois Learner, Eric Holder, VA Hospital scandals, Susan Rice and Samantha Powers appointee’s, John Kerry, our image across the world, how that would have been so much different under Romney vs. Obama in the past couple of years. I think of how many times Obama has given our people the middle finger in his press conferences and on TV and the campaign trail.

I think of the folks who chose to stay home and not vote on principal and morals. The course of history has been changed forever. If Democrats continue in power, America’s demise will be a surety. Liberal judges, Supreme Court openings will be had by Liberal thinking Judges.

I get discouraged because the elitist Republicans force candidates down our throats, they are Debbie Downers, they don’t fight like bull-dogs like the Dems do.

I get angry that Republicans, especially black Republicans don’t get out more and work the black populations, try and tell the real story of civil rights history of the Democrats vs. Republicans. We give up on the black vote.

So for me, I do vote, even if its for a Rino when no conservative is candidate- because at least there is some hope of turning around the country before it’s too late. If I stay home on principle- there is no hope at all...

Every 2 years I remember that I respect libs more than cheshires. This thread is why. At least libs have the guts to be what they are. They don’t pretend to be conservative and then run to Barry at election time.
