5 Voting Suppression Tactics Used Before Elections
ABC News ^ | November 2, 2014 | By JESSE J. HOLLAND

Five common voter suppression tactics that experts look for:

ELECTION DATE CHANGE

Emails, robocalls or paper flyers placed in mailboxes or on car windshields telling voters that one political party votes on one day, and everyone else on another, are simply not true.

INTIMIDATION

In the past, billboards with ominous messages have appeared in neighborhoods, "observers" have threatened to challenge the eligibility of certain voters.

ARREST THREATS

Polling places do not have access to voters' criminal records. Anything that says you can be arrested for showing up to vote if you have unpaid parking tickets, outstanding arrest warrants or a criminal record is untrue.

CHANGE OF POLLING LOCATION, HOURS

Polling places are assigned at the time of voter registration, and those locations are the only places voters can cast an in-person ballot on Election Day.

"DO NOT VOTE" MESSAGES

Some sides try to depress voting by telling the electorate that polls show a certain race is already over, or that one candidate or the other is so far ahead that one more vote won't matter.

I guess that makes me 80% on your side. Is that good enough?

Harry Reid sends his thanks. Pelosi will give you a big smooch the next time you meet.

I understand completely now. Thank you for stating your views so concisely:
Principle = Pathology
Great formula for success!
I know of no perfect candidate and I, myself, am not a 100% conservative, but I do know that those who have clearly stated that conservatives are the enemy are not conservatives.
You accuse me of pathology while you support people who openly despise that which you profess to believe? Interesting cognitive dissonance...

Sarcasm and feverish exaggeration are no way to get through life, son.

You characterized RINO's in toto as "fascists in a different uniform". You were challenged on that as extreme to the point of pathology. So now you try to equate objecting to a candidate on "principle" with my criticism of your blanket condemnation of all RINO's as fascists as "pathological". Fail.

No one has suggested the strawman argument that we should support people who openly despise our causes or principles. What is being said is that to not vote for a RINO in the general is a sure-fire way to get more D's elected. This is how Obama got reelected because too many conservatives just couldn't stomach voting for Romney. And just look at the damage that has done.

We need to fight like hell to get better people nominated through the primary process but once we get to the general, if we need to vote for an imperfect R candidate vs a D, then so be it.

As for your silly analogy about the Founding Fathers, the irony of it is that we would still be under British rule today if they insisted on absolute purity. We would still be waiting today for the “perfect” alternative to British rule.

Remind me how the Founders treated one of their own when caught colluding with the Red Coats? Do you really expect me to believe they'd reelect Cornyn?

Have you forgotten “Tarring and Feathering?” It's a practice we need to restore!

I ain’t your son, boy. The hyperbole began with you.

Obama was not elected because too few conservatives voted. More conservatives voted for Romney than Bush. Romney failed because he quit fighting.

“No one has suggested the strawman argument that we should support people who openly despise our causes or principles. “

So you support getting rid of McConnell? I agree.

DemocRAT get out the vote “ground game” tactics. Send out threatening letters reminding registered DemocRAT voters that the DNC knows where they live if they don’t vote.

In many cities, the Democrats have networks of "precinct captains". If you need help signing up for a government benefit, you go to your Dem precinct captain, and she'll help you get through the bureaucracy, and make sure you are signed up for every federal program that you can get on.

Woe to the Dem resident who does not appear on the list of people who voted, if she wants the Dem precinct captain's help with anything. That's the real threat behind the flyers.

Obama was not elected because too few conservatives voted. More conservatives voted for Romney than Bush.

Wrong again.

Republican Turnout in 2012 Less than 2008 and 2004

I sincerely hope you get the therapy you need someday. Until then, bye.

You do realize that the numbers for Romney in that blog are wrong?
