I understand her decision completely because of personal experience. I only wish I hade been able to say good bye to that person.

Maybe her family decided to keep with the original schedule without her?

That was pretty on again off again. I thought as of Thursday she’d postponed taking her own life.

It's possible her earlier announcement was a ploy to reduce the media glare at a time when she and her family wanted some privacy.
While I can't say I fully agree with her euthanasia decision, I certainly can understand and overlook that little bit of subterfuge, if that in fact is what it was.

I dont blame her in the least.
I can't either, and as a Christian (and Catholic) I know the severity of a decision of suicide. I prayed for her soul and asked God to have mercy on her. I can't say I wouldn't do the same in her horrible situation...more to spare the toll on my family than myself.
That said, I know there are dark forces in our government and society that will use this for every bit of mileage they can get to further an agenda that has nothing to do with mercy.

but the holier than thou crowd... There are a number on FR that seem to know what is "best" for someone else. OK, but to mock someone in death is a little over the top. Keep in classy FReepers.

Neither do I.
And for those who might, I dare you to walk a mile, heck a block, in this woman’s shoes.

I’d probably do the same. No point in prolonging the inevitable and being a burden on your family. My grandad had terminal lung cancer and he deliberately chugged down a couple of sleeping tablets having had a glass of whisky the night he died, which probably wouldn’t have killed a healthy man but probably helped him on his way. He fought to live as long as there was hope but he speeded up the process within two days of being told there was nothing that could be done. He was a tougher man than I could ever hope to be, so I can’t imagine doing anything else in his position.
That said, this should be COMPLETELY in the hands of someone who chooses to do this, without any input from any third party. That is where the slippery slope lies. Anyone who wants to keep living until the bitter end should be able to do so without someone else deciding for them.
To: Steelfish
I don’t care how she wrapped this package up; she committed suicide.
