Harkin isn’t being sexist. Well, he is, but that’s not the point. He’s not really even attacking Ernst.
His comment goes to the heart of democrat thinking about voters. Voters are so stupid they’ll vote for a pretty face and he’s out here making the point that they shouldn’t do that.
Making it controversial just got the comment spread to it’s intended audience: low information voters.
Waking it back now just extends it for the last news cycle before voting. They are desperate to get LIVs to at least pause before voting intuitively.
