McConnell has to be smart enough to see that the political landscape in '16 will present a huge challenge for the Republicans to maintain their Senate majority. There will be many more Republican seats up than there will be for their Dim counterparts.

If he blows this opportunity, he will have a short-lived two year run before Senate leadership changes again. If there's one thing a politician wants above all else, it's to remain in power.

Don't screw this up, Mitch!!

I don’t know, either. Most of the Dems in the senate who might occasionally vote with the Republicans were defeated yesterday. A pretty hard core bunch of Dems left. Don’t know how many Dem votes could be found to override a veto and change any part of Obamacare.

And there might be some Republicans who would oppose any piecemeal changes to Obamacare. Some want full repeal and no tinkering with small parts.

Why would anyone want to listen? We have people here who see defeat in every victory and hate everyone who doesn’t adhere to their personal vision of conservatism on not just every issue, but on every APPROACH to every issue.

Do you know how impeachment works? Has nothing to do with the Senate until the House does something. And it would be a dumb move anyway.

We need Obama as the face of the Dem party in 2 more years. Run against him like he ran against Bush. Forget impeachment.

” Sounds like some FReepers are buying into his “we can all get along” BS.”

The usual suspects.

At the least it would show the people are fed up with Obama. Seeing them do SOMETHING would be better than giving him a pass on his 6 years of destruction. What is your suggestion? Do nothing?

If you’re the type that sees “victory” in electing RINOs then you are a lost cause sorry.

no compromise; no working together

Absolutely not. No games of those who can get away with it selling out on those issues that their constituents will tolerate. We end up with NOTHING that way. What is needed is a checklist of what's not negotiable. That would be the issues that got them elected....securing the borders, sending home invaders, ObamaCare, energy independence, ending government overreach, privacy issues, states rights, straightening out the budget.

I wish you had McConnell’s job.

Even if there are more ‘pub seats up, so what? If they just keep the ones they have, they break even. It’s up to the Republicans in the US Senate to clean up the mess, or they will lose their majority, and probably the presidency.

The folks who just got elected/re-elected have promises to keep with the American people. They need to take the reins from McConnell’s shaky hands and put someone into the position who will keep those promises. McConnell has already started out by reneging on the first promise to repeal Obamacare.

Agree. Dems do not compromise, they shut out. And GOPe op's are just (immigrant labor loving) Uniparty, to keep playing on the playground. They fear constitutional conservatives to their very core.

I thought I'd heard it was something in the mid-20s. A quick search comes up with 34 total seats - 24 currently held by Republicans & 10 by Democrats. If the Dems hold serve and pick off only 3 +/- of those 24 Republicans, control switches back. (Depends on how AK, LA, & VA shake out, too.)

Of course, that doesn't include any special elections that might pop up in the interim, or Senators changing parties.

Not saying it's a guaranteed loss for the GOP, but it's certainly not a slam dunk that the leadership (Senate Majority & Committee heads) doesn't revert back to the Socialist .. I mean .. Democrat Party.

The word is not in his vocabulary. His starts with Executive Order. He will change the nation with amnesty for the illegals with an EO and Amerika has 15-30 BRAND NEW DIMOCRAT VOTERS. In line for free health care, free phones, free money, free housing, and a bus to take them to the polling place on election day so they can pay back their Master for his gifts.

McConnell already made a promise publicly they won’t shut down the government. That to me says they won’t hold Obama accountable, re: sending millions to aid ISIS, millions for African Obola funding, millions for Muzzies abroad etc etc. I WANT them to shut down the damned govt. if Obama thinks he can run roughshod over the people since they are the ones paying for his screwups.
