I've known many that had a stroke. NONE of them smoked...
Yes. But smoking does increase your chances. I know, I work in medicine.
In his case, he was running his risk on all cylinders...smoking...alcoholic most of his adult life, 10 cups of coffee a day (you know those Navy guys) and so on.
Your Dad had good taste in cigarettes. “A fine blend of Turkish and Domestic tobaccos.”
The puzzler in this thread is that Dollar Stores sell stuff for--- well a buck.
Since they can't sell a pack of cigarettes for a buck, what are they doing? Selling cigarettes for a buck per cigarette?
State and Federal taxes on cigarettes each make more profit per pack of cigarettes than the grower, manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer combined.
We can safely assume that is the reason tobacco products have not been banned for health reasons.
Political power and greed trumps health every time!
Of all my vices, smoking cigarettes was the best. I quit 40 years ago. The first few years after quitting, I would sometimes dream at night that I was smoking a cigarette, but I think I'm completely cured now.
So for me at least, it's not like being a "recovering alcoholic" all your life.
Sorry about your dad. It's a shame that something so enjoyable as smoking is deadly.
It makes the stores chain smoker chains.
When I was smoking, unfiltered Camels were readily available, so you didn’t have to tear a filter off.
They must have come in after I quit.
I remember when my dad started smoking filtered cigarettes....for his health.
I quit smoking 32 years ago and I still dream I am smoking.
When I was in the service I bought generic cigs at the commissary for $2.50 a carton.
I went my fraternity homoecoming this past weekend. All the undergrad fraternity guys were smoking Camels.
No I didn’t spell that word wrong. Just saying.
Probably partially a result of the CVS drugstore chain dropping tobacco products. That vacuum gets filled somehow.
I remember ashtrays in elevators...
Different brands get stereotyped, and for me Camels lived up to the reputation of fine tobacco. I didn’t smoke them all the time, just for a special treat, like espresso instead of regular coffee.
Explain to us just what it was that maineman, in your eyes, was supposed to be doing towards his employers customers. How does his position make him an evil person? I too, hope he is happier than you are, because you seem to be miserable.
HA!
And airlines.
And in hospitals and doctor’s offices...
Leonard Cohen took up smoking last month...
Damn you sound like a union steward How does his position make him an evil person?
I guess you didn't understand who he was saying was evil? He did a Job for twenty years that he obliviously thought was evil, but had no problem doing it and blames what he considers the rabble, I guess? I'm fine and very happy how are you BTW, you sound like someone who has superiority complex like the original poster. You're not a used car salesman are you?
