OMG! A knife!
Practically every kid in my school had a trusty Barlow or Boy Scout Knife. It’s a wonder I lived through it!
Every kid I knew in school had a pocket knife. In high school we had shootguns in the trunks of our cars to go straight for a grain field for dove hunting. We even had a school rifle club. And nobody got hurt, nobody pulled weapons on anybody. When are these stupid rules going to stop. Good kids getting caught up in these stupid rules!
I went through high school with a throwing knife in each boot and large folding knife in my pocket, never had a single problem.............from the teachers.
Catholic high school, circa 1972.
Classmate ‘threatens’ to shoot me; I say, ‘Yeah, right.’
He asks if I don’t believe he has a gun.
I reply (knowing that he hung with a rough crowd), responded that I believed that he probably did have one - so he reached into his arm sling (he was recovering from a car accident, brawl or other mayhem) and pulled out a little derringer.
I looked over and told him, ‘Just put that away and quit being stupid.’
I wasn’t scared for a single second - nor should the school have been with the kid with the fruit knife.
My son just said, “Do you know what they do at ______ High when they see a knife? ‘Put that knife where I can’t see it . . .’” “Knives are tools.”
I bought a switchblade in Mexico when I was twelve and carried that around for years.
