I had to move here a few years ago, and am gob-smacked at how clueless most Minnesotans actually are.
They want to be “nice” more than anything else, and they apparently do not think beyond what will make them look and sound “nice” to their neighbors. They avoid any discussion of “controversial” issues, and just want to be “neighborly and kind”.
Maybe the harsh winters here make them more concerned about basic survival, so they are afraid of thinking anything that might disturb the “meme” of “caring”. They are terrified of saying anything that could be interpreted as unkind, divisive, or controversial. They ignore the consequences of policies, as they want to “get along” and be seen as “good”.
Did you know the state bird is the loon?
Nice and non controversial? Right! When a Minneapolis resident sees a bumper sticker deviating from the leftist orthodoxy, the response is usually violent. You would be lucky if you only got your car keyed. When I left it was getting to suggest China during the Cultural Revolution.
