Judge: ‘It is truly difficult to describe how sickened people … are at the sight of you’ (NY)

A 29-year-old father who butchered his wife in a jealous rage and then hacked to death his two, slumbering toddler daughters was sentenced to 45 years in state prison on Friday, WPIX-TV reported.

Before sentencing Miguel Mejia-Ramos, Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder delivered an epic tongue-lashing against the killer.

“It is truly difficult to find words to describe how sickened people are in this courtroom at the sight of you,” Holder said, saying what he did repulses even the most hardened of criminals.

Calling him a “vile and despicable man,” the justice, seething with outrage, said the convicted killer was lucky the death sentence can no longer be imposed in New York. "I truly believe that the person who invented the electric chair or the gas chamber most certainly had you in mind when they designed it,” he said.

I would imagine that at first he will be given special security.
The prisoners will be patient, but I am pretty sure they will off him eventually, however long it takes.

As I understand it, for whatever reason, prison inmates have a special antipathy towards fellow inmates who’ve harmed children. I guess that is at least in part because most of them were severely damaged as children.

The three sentences should have been consecutively (65 years), but he got a plea deal of 45 years for admitting to the murders. Plea deals are horse$hit because the criminal never does the time for the actual crime he’s committed.

every society needs a pecking order and that’s what the inmates seek. I’m better than the next con.

Why not life if he can’t be executed?

"He’ll be dead in five years."

Don't count on it. His Latino buddies will watch out for him, give him protection, maybe even extort some of his commissary from him for that protection, or even take his packages from home if he gets any. Maybe he'll even get visits from some bimbo one of his homies has hooked him up with. There's plenty of dumb broads who think it's cool to visit a con in prison. If he whines to the staff that he's feeling threatened, he'll be put in protective custody with the rest of the cry-babies, have his meals brought to him, have his one hour of rec a day, and all the free medical care he needs.

“He will be eligible for parole in 15 years.”

You got it. Average time served in NY for murder is 7 years.

Read that a while back.

Can any liberal RAT defend why this guy should not be put to death?

They can't do it, but they will try.

The defense will probably include mention of a lifetime of discrimination, lack of opportunity, no social justice, poor education due to lack of funding, Koch Brothers, Tea Party, and Bush. Always Bush.

He won’t live long. There’s something particularly evil about the murder of little children and many felons are fathers.

Someone will manage to finish him off behind bars. He will never survive in the general population once word of his notoriety gets around.

Good riddance to such demon spawn.

This chump, due to the publicity, may go to lockup right away. Charlie Manson walked the mainline, until some Hari Krishna lit him on fire at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville in 1985. I saw him at San Quentin in 1988, and he was in lock up then, and remains in lockup today, 25 years later, so this guy might be protected from day one. I am not sure how much his home boys would protect him. I saw Northerns and Southerns attack their own people, mostly just cleaning house, for various violations of prison politics. Northerns and Southerns are bitter enemies, but they still go after their own. You are also right, I saw many women in the visiting room, visiting the homies. I would say dumb is a pretty good word to describe them.

Were you a Correction Officer. I retired in 2003 after 25 years in uniform (officer and Sergeant) in NY State’s prison system.

Were you a Correction Officer.

Yes, 25 years in the California Dept of Corrections, after 20 years in the Air Force. I used to think the Air Force wasn't very well managed, but after working for the Dept for awhile, I could see, that compared to Dept, the Air Force was very well trained and managed. I did, however, really like the Department's firearms training. Mini 14, S&W .38, Glock .40 caliber, H & K 94, Remington 870, PR 24, and Monadnock.

Yea I know. So he gets out when he’s 74? Yea right. He’ll be out before then.

Perhaps jailhouse justice will shorten his sentence...
