Carol Ann Susi, who is best known for voicing Mrs. Wolowitz on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, died early Tuesday morning in Los Angeles after battling cancer. She was 62.

"The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi, who hilariously and memorably voiced the role of Mrs. Wolowitz," read a statement from Warner Bros. Television and Big Bang Theory producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Bill Prady. "Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance. In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly."

What a disappointment. The woman we never saw but knew more about her personal hygiene than cared to. What a delight on the show.

I doubt they ever planned to show Mrs. Wolowitz. And I am guessing the character will not pass away.

RIP Mrs W.

I remember her also as George Costanza’s date...the daughter of the unemployment office worker who was going to throw him off unemployment for not looking for work.

RIP, Mrs. Wolowitz.

You were hilarious.

“It is unclear how Susi’s passing will impact the show, though it is worth noting Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) does a spot-on impression of her character. Mrs. Wolowitz has had a central storyline this season, in which the gang’s friend Stuart (Kevin Sussman) moves in with Mrs. Wolowitz to nurse her through her declining health. Howard becomes jealous, thinking Stuart has replaced him in his mother’s heart.”

And so she does...I thought it WAS her doing the voice...

Very sad news for her family.
Wonder how they’ll handle it on the show? Will Howard and Stuart share their grief and become friends again?

As much as I love The Big Bang Theory, never thought she added much to the show. I thought it a distraction, but there were times when Wolowitz came back with some good one-liners to her screaming, so guess she was a good straight man. Still, sorry for her family.

Howard will find out that Stuart is willed the house and all hell breaks loose

She had impeccable timing and phrasing. Perfect for the roll of Mrs. W...

Sad, when I read her obit (from THR) that she is survived by her brother and his wife, not a family of her own. You see that a lot in Hollywood obits.

I think I’ll plan a brisket for a meal.

Yep, me too, I was convinced for some time it was the Bernadette character all along, I was sure of it.

I think she brings plenty to the show. RIP Carol Ann Suzi. I remember her in Seinfeld too.

I thought the character did one of the biggest master strokes ever when she set up Stuart with Howard’s cousin to go to the “prom” in the last show. Howard had a history with her. They don’t even mention how the two got together but we all know Howard’s mom was behind it.

She was seen briefly one episode. I think it was when Raj was there. You saw her in the background pass by a doorway. It was hysterical as it took some time for her immense bulk to complete the pass, like train cars going by.
