The irony is that a Muslim may actually have discovered America... sorta. But that fact undermines the Black Legend of Spain. See, during the time of the Spanish Inquisition, any Muslim was entirely exempt from the Inquisition... as long as he admitted to being a Muslim, as opposed to trying to infiltrate the Catholic Church. And many Muslims had many high positions in society, including judges, doctors... and sea captains. And it just so happened that Christopher Columbus’ navigator, Pedro Alonzo Nuno, may have been Muslim, since he was Morroccan. (However, his name may indicate he had converted from Islam.)

Pedro could just as well have been a Moroccan expatriate Spanish Jew. Quite a few Novocristos accompanied Chris on his voyage. He managed to keep the Inquisition out of his hereditary fiefdom of Jamaica for many generations, and a secret Jewish community flourished there. When the Inquisition finally threatened to move in, an actual International Jewish Conspiracy between the Jewish communities of Amsterdam, New Amsterdam and Jamaica managed to arrange the ouster Spanish rule and bring in the British. The Elders of Zion have never before nor since managed to pull off any stunt so bold or successful. It is the drop of truth that enlivens the lie.
